Affordable is relative - my fix was free using stuff I found in the garage! I wanted to prove the concept before investing in the madstad or a new screen. It definitely improved the buffeting. I started noticing new buffeting, more like the whole bike oscillating left & right, at 160-180km/h, so not really a concern for practical driving speeds.

Since 2002 I've owned 4 DL650's and 3 DL1000's. I've had madstads with stock windshields and madstads with Cee Baily windshields and Givi windshields. None worked real well FOR ME . I just bought my used 2012 DL1000 and it came with the Madstad windshield and the Madstad bracket. I got lucky. It's the best system I've had so far. Usually no buffeting and good wind protection. Only in crosswinds and behind big trucks , etc. do I have problems , but it was the same way on my Goldwings , so good enough. BUT .....I'm thinking that if 10 other people rode the bike they would have several different opinions. So, after 151 pages it seems that some people have solved their problem and others are still trying. It only took 14 years for me to find a good set-up. Good luck to everyone else.

Rain under windscreen?

Since I put new 50/50 tires on my K4-650 I am now getting some rain running up the underside of my windscreen.
It runs up about halfway then drips off and blows into my face.
Its defeating the benefit of my winter (tall) windscreen.
I assume its because the new tires are throwing a lot more spray forward & up.

Any suggestings on how to keep the rain out - or divert it away.

Do you have a MadStad adjustable windshield bracket? If not, that may help solve the problem. Another idea would be to mount a piece of foam tape across the bottom of the windshield at the point where the water starts creeping up to act as a dam.

what 50/50 tires? block pattern or chevron pattern

I have not had issue with either, but my GPS mount might be the reason

I just put a Madstad bracket and shield on my 2012 DL1K Adventure. Haven't tested it out yet, but am hopeful it will be a more comfy ride for me and the wife. Would have preferred a wider shield at the bottom, but it has got to be better than stock.

Wife misses the barn door and ultra comfy seat of the GL1500, but I prefer the off road capability of the DL when we are traveling. The GL15 will be the preferred bike when we are at home.

New windshield time

Well crap. There was an ...incident...this afternoon, and now my windshield is broken:

If you think that looks like a Madstad windshield mount, you're exactly right. Installed by the previous owner.

The Givi that came with the bike must have been discontinued, because today Givi doesn't offer anything quite like it.
They do have their newer Airflow design for $238.50 + shipping from any of a few vendors. But, I'm thinking it would not fit my Madstad mount, since it's probably drilled for the stock K7 Vstrom windshield mounts.

My now-broken Givi measures about 22" total height. With height adjusted as high as possible, and angle as far forward as possible, it's not too bad on the highway, but I still get a little buffet (feels like it's hitting the top of my helmet). So any replacement windshield should be 22" if not taller. FWIW, I am 6'2".

The easiest thing would be to purchase a Madstad 22" windshield. Price for one isn't too bad ($150), but I'd have to wait a while, as they now have a 3-day production lead time before it can ship. 22" is the tallest one they sell.

CeeBailey offers a 27" windshield they say is ideal for a rider my height, but it's way more expensive. Add on for the extra height, tint (light gray sounds good) and shipping, and we're over $200. Not sure whether it would or could be drilled for the Madstad mount - have to call them tomorrow to ask.

Any suggestions?

I may be able to help. I have several windshields that I would be willing to part with PM me if you're interested.
