I have had the tires on my Vee for a little over one thousand miles. I just finished a 700+ mile trip and there were no issues at all. I did pump up the pressure to 36 PSI before the trip.

The only things that I have noticed is the extra effort it takes to push into curves now with this tire over the stock Battlewing. I would assume its over the more aggressive tread pattern and it being a bias-ply tire? PLus there is a low speed howl aroiund 25Mph.

My 705's now have 7500 miles on them. 1500 of that on dirt and gravel(See CDR 2009 in the NW section.) Front has 80%+ tread left. Rear has 40%(Should make 10,000 and still be legal). Ride and handling are not quite on par with some of the better radials, but not all that far behind. The casing seems to be extremely tough and puncture resistant as 2 of us ran them on the CDR over some really rough terrain without any troubles. A fresh set should do that trip without any problem.

It seems everyone likes the 705's and they are a versatile tire, but I am wary of the teething issues for such a long trip. I wouldn't have any problem throwing them on my bike when I get back.

Probably going to get the Tourance rear and Heidenau K60 in the front. Any other suggestions for a good combo? I am taking a short trip down baja next weekend to get a feel for the terrain and will order the tires after that.

What about a Shinko in the front and Tourance in the back? Are the delam issues with the Shinko mostly on the back tires or fronts as well?

What do you guys use for a plug kit for flats?

I had heard on this forum or another that there was a recall on Shinko Dual Sport tires. I wrote Shinko and here is the response:

Hello Roy,
I just love the internet forums!
There is no recall on the 705's. An improved bias ply version is on the way to us from Shinko. The radial version should be available sometime this winter.
If anyone is having a tread block cracking problem while there is still legal tread on the tire, they will be taken care of thru the dealer they purchased the tires from.

Thanks for the 009 Raven info. Shinko has some pretty cool tires that will be available soon for sport and sport/touring bikes.

Thanks,

i'd be willing to pay maybe 15-20% more. i'm getting way better mileage than the TW but am not willing to pay more than 60% of the unit price of the TW for these Shinkos. They feel way squirly at times, slow speed corners under decel is most noticeable. I'll pay full price for the Battlewings if the Shinkos hit $75 per.

I corresponded with Scott as well. I purchased my 705's from Bike Bandit. My tire was promptly replaced, shipping free. It didn't cost me a dime. I really like the 705's. They are probably the best Dual-Sport tire I have ever had on my Strom (baring a TKC).

I will be very interested in the new bias ply and especially the new radial.

Here is the problem that I encountered.....

These guys are new, but super helpful and they are all rider's. Thought that I would let people know that these guys had them in stock, as I think that they are kind of hard to find right now.

I ordered a front and rear from them on 11/23/09. The price was great. free shipping too. I havent gotten a delivery date yet but since its free, i guess it might take a little more time.
