What's is your bag?

I just bought a 2012 V-Strom 650A last Friday and I purchased a tail bag for it, I like the looks of some of the soft saddlebags but I'm not sure I would utilize them so what do you guys keep in your bags?

in the bag

When riding to work 97 mile round trip what I had was a little to do with weather. Allways had on gloves, jacket and boots. In hot summer all ways had a cheap rain suit and boot covers. Sting stick a must, fix a flat or slime pump and reamer and plug insert tool. Bottle of water, apple, small light, and a spare headlight blub if doing a lot of night riding.I was 3rd shift. Or if a pet nut your small dog or cat!

Maps, bungees, rain gear, tools, zip ties, electrical tape, extra clothing (sweatshirt for cool summer nights or extra layers for winter) in the top case. I also always run a tank bag. That holds, wallet, work keys, cable lock, Leatherman, paper shop towels, small windex spray, knife, gum, mints, vacuum sealed beef jerky, Lion jump pack, phone cables, gloves when not riding, zip lock bags, nitrile gloves, and probably more stuff I can't remember...lol. Also have the OE toolkit under the seat. Documents, fuses, wire, more electrical tape and zip ties, nitrile gloves in a waterproof tube under my Sargent seat.

Never really took inventory before, hard to believe I cart all that stuff around with me "all the time"! Yikes!

PineLaneRider the wee's have a lot of extra room under the seat.On my Alaska trip, three and a half weeks ,we had all camp gear on bikes,no chase, and food!Took too much of not the right stuff.Had lots better cold gear at home and did not take it. It was 28 degrees and snow in June when we rolled in to DeadHorse. I was cold most the time riding in Alaska and sleeping in the tent all so.

My credit card and road side assistance card from progressive. Not that I have ever had to use either for the bike!

Left bag:
Misc tools, flash light and small led worklight, tire plug kit, air pump, several bungee cord, cargo net, chain lube, rain cover for tank bag, bottle of water, 100 ft parachute cord, several clean microfiber hand towels and some paper towels

Right bag:

Quite a bit of space left over in both bags to add stuff as needed.

99.9% of the time, nowt. Sorry, I lied. There is always an old cap in there in case I stop and need sun protection.

Coops.

This is a great post with good ideas. My new bike came with a full set of cases. I try to be as prepared as I can for a variety of situations and this post is a gold mine for what I should consider to put into the cases.
