I have a 03 vee with 16/43 sprocket set up and a speedo drd. If I return to the stock gearing, will simply unplugging the speedo drd return the speedometer to the factory setting? Also, is the calibration for 16/43 retained in the drd or is it lost when it is disconnected. Thanks
With the SpeedoDRD out of the circuit, the speedo will return to the stock reading. The unit itself will keep the same programming as it had when you took it out. The setting written to it will remain until manually cleared or rewritten by reprogramming it.
To be clear, you'll also be going back to the stock speedo error, which is still around 7% - 8% -- significant and very annoying. So if you plan to ride the bike, it would be well worth keeping the SpeedoDRD and reprogramming it.
If you're just putting the bike back to stock gearing in order to sell it or whatever, then never mind...
I was out riding today with my Tom Tom on and noticed that I was doing 77 to 78 MPH on the bike speedo to hit 70 on the Tom Tom. Is this what you are talking about in the 7 to 8% error?
That's normal. This thread is about the 12oclock labs SpeedoDRD. It and the HealTech SpeedoHealer are to two most popular methods of correcting the speedo electronically. Older Vees and Wees may be corrected by replacing the speedo gauge face.
I just read my GPS and ignore the Speedo. Knowing there is a built in error takes away a worry. Your bike may not be going as fast as you think it is!
Mr LEO will ignore you.
