What's your typical running voltage?

What voltage does your bike typically run at? (According to the dash)
Mine often sits around 14.3 to 14.5 volts.

I seem to go through headlight bulbs pretty quickly, and I thought 13.8V was more of the "standard" automotive level? Wondered if what I'm seeing is normal or if a regulator or something is on the way out..

Anything from 13.5V-14.8V is an acceptable range over 3000rpm. My bikes usually ran about 14.2V corrected.

On my 2015 DL1000 it seems to sit at 14.1 and as load is added (high beams, heated gear) it drops.

I was seeing that 14.5V after the headlight blew again, so having replace it, it's more like ~14.2 with low beam.. Drops to 14.1 with high beam.. 14.0 with heated grips.

Sounds like it runs about .1V higher than your bikes, and within tolerances. So all good.

Wish my headlight bulbs lasted more than a couple of thousand Km though.. Might look into the LED ones, perhaps they're tougher?

Mine is 14.2 but I will give a warning about the headlight globes.

I purchased my V2 second hand and in the service recepts the PO had the headlight globe replaced, a few weeks after getting the bike my headlight failed but it was not the globe the plastic plug on the back of the globe had melted.

I put it down to the connectors being made sloppy when the globe was changed, when I got to it the connectors had gone soft from the heat and were unable to maintain a satisfactory grip on the globes terminals.

I replaced the terminals and have had no further trouble.

My WARNING is try not to stretch the terminals too much when removing the plug from the globe.

I turned over 30,000 km this morning on my way in to work.. I have replaced one low beam bulb. I forget exactly when but likely sometime in the fall. (I'd have to check my records.). It was the first headlight bulb I had replaced in over 340,000 km of Strom riding.

That's crazy!
At the moment I think I'm going thru a bulb every 4000km.

I suspect it's partly due to me commuting, and thus starting and stopping the bike (and lights) at least 10 times a week; and on the weekends, I do take the bike on gravel/dirt roads which shake it around tremendously.

You'd think I wasn't the only person doing that though :/
Maybe I need a new brand of bulb? But mostly it tends to be "whatever the closest garage stocks at the time it blows". I guess I should plan ahead and keep some decent ones at home and work.

One low beam globe and one set of terminals in 25000ks

Well a lot of my mileage is commuting. Last year I was hitting my starter button on occasion to flash the beam and I thought that is what did it in. ( silly idea I know.)

i replaced both bulbs (but thats because i wanted LED ones >:)) oh yea and the small one to a white light to match

I didn't notice this was in the Vee2 section either. It's really a general topic so I'm moving it.

I would call it a V2 topic if specific to the Oem voltmeter... Mine runs 14.2 mostly with low beam. 14.1 with Oxford heated grips on, then less with high beam ...no bulb replacement in 1k miles of course.

I don't see any indication the OEM voltmeter is anything unique compared to the readings of other voltmeters.

I think the charging system is different.. Iirc the voltage is much more stable in the 2014+ DL1000 compared to my 2006 DL650 voltmeter. The voltage seems to stay at 14.1 unless it is charging (in which case it goes higher) and drops as it has load on it. High beams seem to drop it .2 or .3 volts and heater gear more of course.

Measured at the heated grip terminal behind the radiator 13.8volts at crusing speed with 3/10 volt ocasional variations under normal loads.
