Recently, while traveling on the WeeStrom which included back-to-back 900 mile days , I was asked about the touring comforts of my Wee. The gentleman asked about my seat, pegs, bars, and other farkles he noticed, but most, about my riding position.
So, I figured I would write and photo-document the ergonomic differences/similarities between my two touring bikes. Both have proven to be comfortable and capable long distance rides. My longest day to date is just over 1,500 miles, about a dozen thousand mile days, and MANY 500-1,000 mile days. Incidentally I am 6'0" and from the pics you will see I weigh too much but that doesn't stop me from riding.
My 2011 650 ABS Strom and my Harley a 1999 Ultra Classic Peace Officer are both accomplished travelers. Both are very comfortable. In high cross winds or inclement weather I prefer the Ultra. When high speed is desired or travel includes the possibility of hot weather traffic jams the Strom wins. But both are very comfortable. MPG fully loaded is 52 on the Strom and 40 on the Ultra
Ergo mods to the Strom include a Givi windscreen, a Harley solo police saddle, backrest (homemade), peg lowering set, highway pegs (homemade), 1 inch bar-backs and risers and a touring handlebar with more rise and pullback. Other mods and farkles are many!
Mods to the Ultra? Highway pegs, repositioning the handlebars and moving the factory backrest.
The pictures illustrate bike profiles along with knee, leg, shoulder, arm, and back positions.
Yes, the Wee can be a great touring bike.
The reply to this will contain seating comfort pics.
