Hi Rob, and thanks. Yes, I made it myself. I don't have any in-progress photos, but it wasn't hard. The toughest part was cutting and reinforcing the tapered bottom, and making the lid. I originally was using one of those expansion plugs for an end cap, but I didn't like how it looked on the bike, so I handmade the end cap.

Storage tube for Wee-Strom

Here's my take: got a luggage guard from Dan Vesel, than used the rubber lined clamps to attach an 18 inch piece of 4 inch pvc. The "door" is a test stopper for 4 inch cleanouts. There are metal ones, but the big wing nut looked clunky to me. This plastic one is water tight, comes out with a few twists of the red dial (which I may eventually paint black). Solid, lots of space for doo-dads and my hand will reach to the bottom.

More on tube

I used four, two hidden under guard. They're found in the electrical section, 3/4 inch, used to attach cable to walls, joists. They don't come with the guard. I used 3/16 bolts w/lock washers, head inside the tube to avoid snags. Used some plasti-dip just dress things up.

Here are pics of mine on my DL650, made from 90mm PVC. I have since swapped the screw lid for one with a key lock. It has enough room for my tool roll and chain lube or fire extinguisher. The tube mounts to PMRack soft saddle bag racks using 90mm stand-off clamps from a plumbing store. I have the next size down PVC end cap inside attached to two cords with the other ends attached to the inside of the cap that allows me to pull items out from the bottom of the tube, as my bear paws/forearms won't fit inside the tube and still be able to grab anything.

Looks very good to me. This has been my plan as well and I recently acquired the required exhaust to do it. I'm curious how your cap attaches to the tube. Can't figure it out from your photo above.

Here is mine. I made a couple of extra tool tube brackets for my DRZ and found that it works on the Wee with a little modification of the plastic shroud around the rear frame:

Here's the beta version of my tube:




The attachments are all on the exterior, no holes drilled so the tube should be 100% waterproof. The pipes I used have seals at either end, the end-caps fit very tightly.

I now have to decide whether to paint it black or leave it as is (suggestions are welcome) :)

Ideally I would fit an end-cap and a heat guard so everything looks symmetric, just like bananman did here - http://i557.photobucket.com/albums/ss13/luvsbikes/P1010169.jpg

Yep, something like this - faminstal?ro/coliere-pentru-tevi-cu-garnitura?html the nut is welded to the upper half of the "ring". The connection bit is a screq I have cut down and bent.

Towards the end of the pipe (the bit closest to the rear) I have added a connector like this one - directorproduse?ro/images/72/39//5662940/5662940?jpg and an end-cap.

I really like the way several here have 'cobbled together' their storage tubes. Main problem with my bike is that I don't have saddlebag racks (and don't intend to have saddlebags, not this time). Wish there was a way to utilize these ideas and not HAVE to have side racks. :D Great ideas, though.....

Here's yet another made from ABS and painted with low sheet plastic paint. Low profile ss screws from inside to avoid snagging. The plug is a test plug for 4" ABS. Inside is a siphon hose in a zip-lock bag for camping fuel or needy friends then I use it like a stuff bag to carry my jacket liner. Thanks for the great ideas here! Now I wanna do a locking cap.

Here is the standard Agri/TT tube with TT mount. My chain stuff is in there. DuPont Chainsaver, etc.

I've just gone down the plumbing supply and bought some 90mm PVC pipe and some fittings and made a tool tube.

When I was cleaning the leaves out of the pool this morning I noticed this in the shed....I't's almost exactly the same size as the PVC one I just made.....DOH!

Oh well, now I have 2.

This is a new version of a tool tube I made for my Super Tenere. I realize it's not on a Strom, but it's made to mount to a set of Happy Trail racks, and would probably work on the Strom too. 4" ABS pipe with mounting fittings made from hardware store stuff. I made the door hinge out of aluminum u-channel and square tube stock (again, hardware store stuff). The door lock is a basic desk drawer lock, and it's also padlockable on the side latch. There is a rubber gasket on the door to keep the water out. The paint job old school masking tape stencils, sprayed white first and then black.
