Question 650 v 1000

I'm interested in getting a vstrom, new or possibly used no more than 3 yrs old. I'd like to start a discussion about the relative merits of the 650 v. the 1000. any experienced vstrommers care to comment, please do. It'll help my research. thanks

Some of the other gals and guys might chime in but there's lots of previous / existing threads on this topic in this forum. Using the Google search box in the middle upper portion of this page (within Stromtrooper) should provide all the information you'll want. Probably a lot more than you want.

Good luck - whichever you choose.

Paul
There could be some significant advantages to the 2014 dl 1000 being made available shortly, research these if in the market for a new machine. The dl650 really does a lot, just depends on how much extra punch you really want or need.

There are a few members here that own both the DL650 and the DL1000. That is where the best opinions lie.
Additionally, check these links...

Comparison--V-Strom 1000 vs V-Strom 650
V-Strom vs. V-Strom: DL1000 vs. DL650 | Rider Magazine
DL650 vs DL1000 based on 30min test ride

And of course, My 2 cents worth...
I do NOT have a DL650 but having considerable time on a mix of bikes from 50cc to 1200cc (and a DL1000), I'd say the Vee is not the rocket ship many here claim it to be.
I love to wrench, tune, and tinker so the Vee fits me perfectly but if your desire is to ride & tour, I can see no reason why you would not simply buy the DL650 and enjoy one of the best priced, best supported, most reliable bikes ever created in that price range.

Happy Shopping,
-Ej-
