There is no consensus on short names for different models and years. Anybody can use any name they want. Vee is pretty well accepted for the 2002-2012 DL1000. Wee has been somewhat grudgingly accepted for the 2004-2011 DL650 and sometimes beyond those years. Gee, Glee and Wee2 are most often used for 2012 and later DL650s and there is practically a war on the subject. Vee2 is common for the second generation DL1000 as is Veek for a Vee with a beak (Eek, a beak). I'm hoping to end the war with this thread.
Use anything else if it strikes your fancy. For clarity's sake, a note in your sig on whatever works for you is recommended. Go ahead and explain the reasons for your choice here if you want. It really is poor sportsmanship to disparage whatever anybody else chooses.
Again, nobody is trying to tell anyone else what names they can and cannot use. Name your bikes and babies any names you like and let others do the same. Also, these names are used basically in threads on the forum to save keystrokes when a topic applies differently to different models. Forum members talking to each other on a ride or at an event may occasionally find use for a shortcut while speaking but that is not the main use. Nicknames are not involved with telling any non V-Strom rider what kind of bike you have any more than one would tell a stranger an inside joke. It wouldn't make sense.
For those not clear on which model is being referred to amid our garbled guffaws, and until newer and better names appear, here is the current noms de concensus:

I knew a consensus would create controversy. Unfortunately, unless some consensus is reached, the members look fractured and incapable of intelligent discussion. We're responsible for maintaining a forum standard that draws other readers and potential converts to this celebrated machine.
Sure, let's go with El Skeletoe - that's Spanish for "I drug my toe down to the bone on my brand new Glee!"
Or, G-Strom which means "Under these leathers I wear a g-string!"
or we could quit being such a bunch of girls and enjoy our collective pastime? (i don't mean to disparage girls in any way, K?)
i have never understood, nor condoned, the hierarchy amongst bikers. status symbol? really? i can fly past most riders on a KLR650 with dirt tires. OK, u spent $20K and ur afraid to get it dirty. bye, bye
i JUST do not get it...why? 'some' riders will not wave to others. yet, when they break down, they'll accept help from other 2-wheelers?
today i met a grandpa, and grandma. riding a suzuke 650, and a yamaha 250, and i was more than happy to speak with them.
folks, i ride a 1000cc bike, but my buddy rides a harley that has a bigger engine than my car(1500cc). car is faster, but that is an aside.
wee? vee? really?
two wheels and a desire to lean into corners. <<<that is all we need.
Yes, you both said it and it makes no sense when the purpose of the names as stated is to differentiate between the mechanical differences of Vees, Wees and Glees. In fact, It would be helpful if there was a differentiation between 2004-2006, 2007-2011 and 2012+ 650s.
For example, Wees benefit from lowering the front 10-15mm to improve aerodynamic lift tendencies and quicken steering. Glees already have quicker steering due to a longer shock and the fairing design does not have the aerodynamic lift of the older models. Replace "Glee" and "Wee" with "DL650" in those sentences and they are senseless and inaccurate. Then the additional info that ABS Wees have a limit of 7-10mm when a fork brace is used needs to be mentioned.
If I had to specify 2004-2011 DL650 instead of Wee and 2012+ DL650 instead of Glee every time given the number of posts I need to do to answer questions, my workload would go way up. I'm not a touch typist.

i call my new 2012 dl1000a my 'wheelie wing'... i hang with a bunch of old guys on gold wings... i can carry almost as much crap and still ride on one wheel...
After trawling for MONTHS to try and find out what Glee referred to I accidentally stumbled upon this thread.
Got to say this: Do NOT like GLEE in the slightest.
I can understand Vee and Wee ( because I maybe unnaturally assumed ‘Wee’ was as used by the Scots to describe anything ‘small’), so Wee is ok by me.
So as a fast way of describing EXACTLY what you ride........
VL2 is a 2012 v-strom 1000cc
WL6 is a 2016 v-strom 650cc
(L being Suzuki model designation for 2010-2019 bikes).
The new 1000 would naturally be called the Woody.....:green_lol:
Or you could shorten it to Woo to keep it in line with the Vee, Wee, and Gee????llll No Glee for me...
I have nick's for all my machinery. car,truck,bike,lawnmower,weedeater,leafblower,gas-poweredmargaritablender are all named Bessie.
as in, "I hope 'ole' Bessie will start today" (joking, of course)
all have -never- not fired up. I kind of keep a close eye on my transportation, oil and filters on regular schedule, I read the manuals.
machinery at my work is a different story. I call them the Jesus machines. Miracles happen. I leave work, machine is purring along...the very next morning...the exact same machine is running horribly.
Things that I fixed, and have the numbers to prove it, are mysteriously running worse than I left it. Not a Thing Written up on daily sheets.....Jesus worked a Miracle. I run the Jesus machines. Miracles happen when I am not there. I leave a machine running 98.5%, and walk into a machine running 94% at 7am. Miracles.
I am sure some of you ppl have this happen? or not.
I kinda like GStrom for the 650 prior to 2012. I've used the term Wee myself but don't really like it. But then again, it ain't gonna cost me any sleep if somebody wants to call it a wimpstrom. I still love the bike and it suits me completely.
Well as a Wee owner, I have no problem with its name and fully accept it and the DL1000's Vee. So, on that note I'm fine with Gee and Glee.
