I have 2 bikes now and neither has ABS. I always thought my next bike would have ABS after hearing about people sliding because of "improperly" applying the brakes :yikes:
I'm planning a trip with my brother to Alaska (he has a BMW Rockster, but going to sell it and buy his dream bike the BMW GSA) He tells me if I get a bike with ABS, I "must" be able to switch it off if we are going to go on gravel packed roads and off road. (the wee doesn't allow that I guess) He tells me you can run into a situation where it's difficult to stop the bike, mud on the road he tells me
I see a lots of stories about trips to Alaska on the wee and V.
I guess the question is how do you guys feel about not being able to switch off the ABS on the wee? and how difficult is using the wee off road? could there be a situation where you can't stop the bike?
Should I even care and just buy the 1000 without ABS?

Just when I'm getting comfortable with my new used Wee

I was in a parking lot and was waiting for a spot and slowed to a crawl and leaned to the right and my foot went down a second too late. I passed the point of no return and realized I was going down.. ended up with a controlled drop on the right side.

The only damage besides a scraped handlebar weight, was the front brake lever. The last 1 1/2" snapped off, so I guess I am lucky?(I have no crash bars or other protection)

Instead of replacing the lever at $50+, can it be cold welded? or too much risk, I can picture it snapping off in an emergency-full on braking, it is only the end, so my pinky would be left out of a hard brake, if it broke off after cold welding that is

Also, can used parts found for this, being it's just hardware..

I may have a flat black 2008 Wee ABS with 7700 miles that may be coming up for sale and I'm putting this out there to gauge interest. Excellent condition with new Trail Wings and Iridium plugs installed at 7600 miles. 3 oil/filter changes done thus far including the very important 600 mile service done by Suzuki. The other 2 oil/filter changes were done by me with Rotella T synthetic. Only one little scratch on crash bar caused by a no speed tip over. Most of my riding has been very conservative especially when riding 2-up (about 1/2 of the miles). I say that I "may" put it up for sale because I don't have to sell it and not willing to take a big loss on it. See avatar for picture or go here....http://www.suzukicycles.com/Product Lines/Cycles/Products/V-Strom 650/2008/DL650A.aspx

what are the advantages to wire wheels ?

I'm told it's for ease of repair if they become damages

seems to me is costs more (money AND time) to get someone to true a wire wheel than it does to have someone like McWheel repair a damaged alloy wheel

We are looking for recommendations on where the best place would be to rent a bike or two and what scenic roads you might suggest. We will have about two full days for riding. V-strom or BMW would be our prefernece for rental bikes. We have never riden the coast or been to the redwood forest.

I bought these racks last August from Twisted Throttle for my '05 Vee Strom. I attached the MotoGear Classics soft bags that came with the bike through the existing rack holes, and bolted through a 1/2 inch piece of hardwood on the inside of the bags. The bags have a built in rain fly so they actually worked pretty well, and stayed fairly dry and clean on dusty roads and wet pavement. The racks can be seen on the TT site, and the bags (classics) can be seen on the MotoGear site. I have some good pics of the set up while up North in Maine and Canada last fall, but I am to stupid or tired to be able to get them to post here tonight, but if you email me I will send them to you. mcoleman3988@gmail.com If I have time I will get a smugmug account and post pics tomorrow (if they have not sold by then).

Price: $225 plus shipping for both bags and rack, or $185 +shipping for rack and $40 + shipping for the bags. Shipping from 04843 in Maine.

Thanks for looking. Email me with questions.

Hi all,
Just like the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, the last thread for this weekend was sufferring from an increasingly miss matched title.

I'm riding to Quindanning to meet with Glenn T and various other Sou' Westers on the above weekend. Plan is to leave Perth, go via Dwellingup, lunch Quindanning (see if the river is flowing) and then ride either on the black top via Collie or dirt to Harvey and spend the night at Myalup at our holiday place, then toodle back to whence you came as you like it. Day trippers and overnighters welcome (our place sleeps 8 in beds and two dozen if you don't really care about comfort)

Had a couple of starters but the time is nigh to make a few more solid statements about what people want to do.

Hands up who's doing what!
cheers
