A beautiful sunny day, but still bitterly cold here.

I'm getting desperate now...

There's still too much road salt around here to collect my new DL650 from the dealership, so I've taken to driving around the routes I'll explore on the bike, in my four wheel vehicle.

*sigh*

The place still looks like a neat area to do my ride in JUNE.
Could do w/o the ice on the rock beach though. Is there any surf fishing done in your area?
Neat pic, Well done.

Not sure about 'surf fishing' but there's plenty of fishing and plenty of surfing that goes on here.

Here's a larger collection of my photos of the Island of Newfoundland, if you're interested...

I was born in NB and raised in NS and PEI but have never been to the "Rock". Guess I'm just gonna have to go now and see for myself. Thanks, Newfoundlander.

Wow!

Who needs to trek all the way to Alaska when there are views like that locally...well almost locally, for an east-coaster like me. :)

Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, and Labrador are high on my to-do list.

Beautiful pictures, One day I may make it all the way up there. I tried once but played about on back roads so much from Louisiana to Maine that I ran out of time on that trip.
Gary,
That's stuff we don't want to see in Southern most Louisiana for sure much less Southern California. ;-)

I suggest you make Newfoundland your prime target, Andy. Early in 2007, I planned a trip from Toronto through Québec, New England, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia to Newfoundland.

By visiting www.ridetherock.com, I learned how important a part Newfoundland would play in that trip, which immediately became a trip to Newfoundland via a buncha other places. The other places are great, of course, but Newfoundland is terrific.

And of course the people are the most important, delightful, and welcoming features of the province.

I stayed three days at City Hostel in downtown St. Johns, and my bill was below US$70 for three nights' accomodation in a 4-bed room. I did a laundry for under $3 in coins, and used a computer to receive and send e-mail free. There was reasonably safe and secure free parking for my Wee. As always in Newfoundland, the people running the show and the people I met were central to my enjoyment of that stay.

One native spotted a screw in my front tire, a second native led me to a place where folks were fixing vehicles, and a third whipped out a plug-it kit and fixed my tire, all in the space of twenty-five minutes ... on a national holiday! The plug stayed in the tire 2700 miles, all the way back to TO.

Visit RideThe Rock, and you will be convinced. En route, I suggest you ride some of the Natchez Trace, perhaps the Dragon, perhaps North Carolina's Outer Banks (I rode them this October), otherwise Virginia's Skyline Drive, the Delmarva Peninsula, and the coastal roads in Maine. Don't overlook Prince Edward Island. I was unfortunate enough to meet that island's jerk, but he did me no harm, and I suspect he is the only one .

GO FOR IT, BYE! It will matter to you for the rest of your life!
Keith
