G'day all,

I just installed a pair of up and back handle bar risers on my 6fiddy.

Heaven to ride.

Bought them from Michael at:

http://www.motorradgarage.com.au/catalog/index.php?cPath=38_49&osCsid=76ff7a1d3fc89aca96b018feef695e75

The service was brilliant.
Ordered them on Monday, and they arrived today, Friday.
Great communication, and easy transaction.

Not associated in any way, just a very happy customer, and thought it was worth a plug on the Aussie section of the forum.

Cheers
Chris

Chris,

Have seen the pic of your bike in a tyre thread and noticed a few things that got my interest so thought I would ask away.

The TKC80's, how was the sealed surface handling and/or wear?

The reason is that I have just ordered a set and want to get an idea.

Also the tankbag I notice is magnetic. Does it sit ok on the Strom tank or get in the way of your torso or arms at all?

Also, how is it in rough stuff (ie. firetrails etc), does it move around?

Thanks in advance.

Garry,

TKC80's.
I like these tryes. On the bitumen, they have the bump, bump, bump when pulling up etc. The grip seemed fine to me. I'm not an agressive rider, but felt completely secure with them. Haven't done any wet tar with them.
Great grip on the dirt. Once pressure was dropped, around the 20psi mark.
I had done about 2500km on them, with about 1100km of tar.
I then took them off, to dave them for my next ride, and put my trailwings back on. Simply because I was going to do mostly tar for a while, and figured there was enough on the TKC's worth saving.
I would say I could get the same trip out of the tyres, but then the rear would be cactus. The front doesn't show much wear.
A mate uses them on his GS1200, and loves them. He is a bit more aggressive, and gets around the 4000-5000km out of the rear.
It's a pity the cost is higher, and the mileage lower....

The tank bag.
Dririder. Borrowed it from a the mate with the GS.
Magnetic, yes. Huge storage room. Big magnets.
Nothing seems to "fit" the Strom tank. Too much plastic at the front, where the magnets like to grab.
I am only small, and the Dririder tank bag, sits back a fair way. But the grip is great.
I have not had it move at all, (while in an upright position), hangs on very well. I load it up pretty well. It has a bit of "slop" in it as it is high, but the base is solid. The only time I have had it shift, was when I layed the bike down in deep sand. But then everything shifted.....

I have pictures here
http://www.pbase.com/toffspics/cameron_corner_trip
some of which show a side on view, of how far back the bag sat on the tank.

Hope this helps.
Sorry it's a bit long.

Cheers

Also,
Tank bag. Didn't get in the way of my arms, or torso.
I'm a small guy, so the tummy was no problem :-)

I have tried quite a few tank bags on at bike shops, to see how they fit etc.
None yet, have made me want to use them, over the Dririder. It is a larger bag I guess, not as nice and compact as some eg of the Oxford range.

If you can find a dealer, try a few on.
Cheers

Certainly helps so much appreciated.

With the TKC's what you are saying is on par with everything else I have been able to track down and means I may need to look at getting either spare rims or spare tyres and swap over occasionally. I do as much dirt as possiblke in my area but often it means a 50/50 ride and being hoinest, I have not really had problems with teh wings except in soft dirt although on lcay i lose confidence in them.

The tankbag Question was mainly because I have a topbox and sometimes when away need just a little more room and was wondering.

By the way, nice series of pics.

Thanks again.

A big article on tyre comparrisons, if you ever feel bored, and want a read.

http://faq.f650.com/FAQs/TireOpinionsFAQ.htm

I use a good sized bum bag to help, and always say yes, when my mate offers me the use of his tank bag. I should just buy it from him :-)

My dilema is getting either hard panniers, Givi, as I have the racks, or soft, so they can absorb the shock of a laydown?

But thats another discussion.

Cheers
Chris

I can endorse motoradgarage too, have bought Kaoko throttle lock and SW Motech quicklock tank bag off them. Much cheaper than trying to source from overseas. I did a review on the tankbag in the gear section.

Hurrah! It has turned up at NZ post in Auckland! Booooooo! NZ Customs has intercepted my package and is now charging me GST on; the goods, the freight to NZ and the GST already charged in OZ. Yaaay! Fortunately I have a wonderful sister in Aucks who went to pick it all up for me as there was no way I was going to get it posted to me this side of easter. So a purchase of $494AUD has turned into $642NZ total. Feeling a bit burned now, but happy with Motorrad. [Mumbles to self and heads off outside to kick neighbours dog!]

the goods, the freight to NZ and the GST already charged in OZ.

If you purchased the goods in Australia and they were mailed to an address outside Australia then the seller has no right to charge Australian GST. Demand a refund from the seller in the first instance or the Australian Tax Office in the second but really the seller should learn the law regarding exporting.

Read this link in full (http://www.ato.gov.au/large/content.asp?doc=/content/65996.htm)

Exports of goods

Exported goods are GST-free if they are exported from Australia either before, or within, 60 days of the first of the following two events:

* the supplier receives any payment for the goods, or
* the supplier issues an invoice for the goods.

In the case of goods paid for by instalments the payment referred to is any part of the final instalment and the invoice referred to is the invoice for the final instalment.

The supplier can apply to the Tax Office to extend the 60-day period.
