Portland's Rose City Motorcycle Club's 250 ride is coming up on Sunday April 1. Any of y'all planning to participate? Shall we NW Troopers get a group (or two or three - since they suggest keeping the groups to a few bikes) together?

Originally, my wife and I were taking the Wing, but now she's scheduled to work, so it's Strommin' Time. Count me in.

I should have posted some additional info. Copied some below, but best bet is to go to their website http://www.rose-city-mc.org/RCFrameset.html. Select RCMC Events from the top of the left hand menu and scroll down to the information on the 250. You can also link to their full flyer from there.

2007 ROSE CITY OREGON 250
Sunday, April 1, 2007

The Rose City Oregon "250" is a poker run for road riders. In the past 15 years this event has generated over $44,000 for the Kidney Association of Oregon and 10 tons of food for the Vernonia Food Bank. Approximately 250 miles in length, it serves as an excellent opportunity to tune-up for the Rose City Oregon 500 in May.

EVENT SCHEDULE:
The 16th Annual Rose City Oregon 250 will be held on Sunday, April 1, 2007. Sign-in and start will be between 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at Beaverton Honda-Yamaha-Suzuki located at 10380 S.W. Cascade Blvd., Tigard, Oregon (Across Highway 217 from Washington Square) - Take the Greenburg Road Exit from Hwy 217. In one block turn right at the BP station and continue for about three blocks to Beaverton Honda-Yamaha-Suzuki.

OK Guys:

Rose City 250
Date: Sunday, 4/1/07
Place: Beaverton Honda/Yamaha
Time: Sign in/Start is 5:30-8:30 (Shoot to meet at 8:00, start by 8:30)
Finish: 4:00 (or before)
Drawing for helmet: 4:30

Note: bring a can(s) of food for charity, maybe win a helmet.

Those of us with bike-to-bike coms, bring your gear, it will make the "group thing" easier.

Mr. Fisherman-Might make it easier if we had a two-up bike with a navigator to read the route on the fly.

PS: there'll be DONUTS!

Let me know if the start time is an issue, we could always start earlier if that is what most of us want.

Sounds great! I'm looking forward to my first (for me) long ride and glad to know I've got a good group to ride with.

As much as I'd like to have a second helmet, I'm not sure I can stay around for the drawing...I've got to hop in a cage and drive up to Seattle after the day's ride.

But first, I've got to swap out my handlebars. Yep, that project I hoped to get to several weeks ago will finally get done (at least started) this weekend!

We'll be checking those new bars out. If they work for you, maybe some of us will make the change. Don't know if you have to be present to win the prize. We'll cover for you.

Just happen to be at BHY when the Rose City route test team pulled in. The only thing they would tell me is that the route is all in Oregon.

Just a reminder, it's this Sunday at 8am at Beaverton Honda/Yamaha.

I would like to make this ride if possible but I have missed a week or work with a bum elbow. It is feeling a lot better and I am back at work but I am not sure I can get the night off to make the trip.
I would like to and I'll see what I can do.
I am concerned about showing up at 8:00 and trying to register and be gone by 8:30.
If we do this I think we should meet earlier. I would imagine there will be a good number of participants.

Nighthawk22

I don't have a problem meeting at 7:30 or even 7:00 if that is what the group wants to do, it just shouldn't be any later that 8:00.

mcdstrom

There's about 125 people (maybe 100 bikes depending on how many of those pairs with the same names are two-up) registered so far according to the web site. Probably a lot of people waiting to see what the weather will be like.
7:30 might be a good idea.

I'm there, I heard there'll be doughnuts! :D

Well you boys and girls should be rolling in any time now.
Don't hold back...
The weather looked beautiful, though maybe a little on the chilly side.
Lets see the pics, route and hear the stories...

I missed this thread, made the ride with some guys from the pacific northwest riders board. Looks like I just missed the stromtrooper group as we rolled in to BHY about 715, and left just before 8

Nice pics... Thanks for sharing.
I recognise the Astor Column, where was the 1st checkpoint?
Where were the rest of the checkpoints?

Where were the rest of the checkpoints?

first one was at a park just off Hwy 47, I forget the name, I skipped the last two (third was in WA somewhere)
the ride went across the bridge at Astoria, out Hwy 4, then 432, 433, back across to Hwy 30 and to finish,

I was running late :( so I skipped the WA state side and jetted home from Astoria on Hwy 30 after 2nd check point.

I hope the guy I gave my raffle tickets to won something :D

Dragon Rider, We pulled in around 7:30 and left just after 8. We must have been just behind you most of the way. That's one of the Stroms just to the right of the red pickup in your first picture.

Fisherman, The stops were the Elk Viewing area a bit west of Mist, the column, County Line Park on the Washington side, and Scappose Middle School.

It was a great ride. First one over 100 miles for me. I learned I need to be a little more careful about riding within my comfort zone. Got myself into trouble on a couple turns after the first checkpoint by trying to keep up. I think I was a bit nervous about the wet roads so that contributed, but mostly it was just a failure to set up for the corner correctly by slowing down enough. And there's something about right turns - any time I've had a problem, that's the way I was trying to go. Lefties are no problem.

And speaking of the weather...wasn't that something? Starting out in freezing temps but beautiful skies, then coulds, then...what's that swirling around the tires...snow! And rain, and hail, and sleet. We had it all. And it was fun.

For those in the group, I made it up to Seattle in the cage with no problems after the ride. Ibuprofin is a wonderful thing.

Felt like a mailman "Neither rain or snow or ...". My pics are coming, but I noticed a fair amount of crotch-rocket types in jeans and leather jackets! They must be tougher than I thought, not particularly smart, but tough, tougher than me. Saw a couple of ladies on the back that were dressed the same. Think I'd rather walk. It was a good test of the gear. I've put an extra sweatshirt in my bags for next time. Could have used it. Hand warmers, too.

Yep, hand warmers, my grandma's quilt and a hot water bottle would have been nice. I see heated clothing in my future. I think is was more of the not smart than the toughness factor. I noticed at County Line that both the guy and the girl we saw on that rocket had spent some time in the lue under the hand blow driers. ;)
