So, I tend to show up in the bay area every so often for business and what not. I would *love* to have a motorcycle there, but renting a hardley is not what I am looking for. I have seen the sportbike rental places, but they are like $775/week, holy f0rking hell man, thats more than a bike payment, it would be less expensive to by a CA Strom and store it in my bosses garage during the months I am not in CA, seriously!
Does anyone have any tips on where I might find a reasonable rental for like 2-3 weeks, or should I start combing thru craigslist :p
Oooh I wanna try kiteboarding too, I need to stop with these expensive habbits :p

Start combing thru craigslist. rentals are expensive and cheap depending how you look at it. If I rent a bike for $300 for a weekend and rent it every weekend it's a bad deal. But if I ride 10-15 times a year $4500 a year for the latest 600cc sportbike or H.D. is not a bad idea. That's not counting maintenance, insurance or registration. I'd say the majority of riders would be better off renting vd. buying cost wise.

You have a point, however, I like to ride a lot, 230 mi today, and they said it was too sandy and cold in the canyons? :D Out of the last two weeks I have ridden probably 10 days. I am still in the whole, withdrawl after two days of not riding stages, damn snow! I will be back up there tomorrow, highway 7 between Lyons, CO and Estes Park, CO is my new favorite road.
*ANYHOW*
I would use it as my daily commuter and weekend fun toy for the 3 weeks in March and May. (at least)
Renting:
$775 x 6 = 4650, not counting insurance of course, but if something went wrong it would be like, oh we are soo sorry, we will bring another out and pick you up? .. that would be kinda nice, not that I have ever had a problem with my 450lb blue Japanese girlfriend :)
I have contacted some person selling a SV650S (not quite the same, I know), but its hard to look at bikes via remote :) .. guh, and I'd probably have to license it in CA even though my residence is in CO :(
The biggest problem is, I really don't need the extra debt, maybe I need a sugar momma (or daddy?) to buy me one :p

I know some BMW stores rent out F650GS's. Its not a Strom, but its still a good bike.

Hmm, last time I walked into a BMW place, they asked me to leave :P
Actually, a few people have suggested I look at a dealer rental, I will have to find out what their rates are I guess.

Do you have a minimum of 2 years experience riding a motorcycle? ()Yes ()No
*GUH* Questions like that always burn me :p
Hah, maybe I should go for IBA (gold?):
Broomfield, CO to San Carlos, CA
1,278 mi (about 18 hours 32 mins)

Too bad you're not coming to Portland, Or. There is a guy that is renting new Wee's with several optional accessories like bags, etc. near PDX
