I've never bought a new bike before (lots of cars) and am unsure what to expect in the way of a discount on a new bike. I'm interested in what to expect to pay for either a 2006 or 2007 DL650. Are their some other things I should ask for to be 'thrown' in?
Thanks for the informative site!

http://www.otdcyclesports.com is about the best place to start for new prices.
I was just quoted and OTD price of 7900 today for the 650 ABS model.

I used OTD for the price and made Hahm Motorsports in Costa Mesa/Newport Beach match it..... Worked like a charm!

If only I could get them to send me an email in response. They always send me an email that says "your quote is on its' way", then the next day I get one that asks if I got the quote...
It's nowhere to be found in my gmail spam folder :-\

Same here, never got a real quote, just an email asking if I got the quote. That's why I bought mine from 74 Motorsports in Lake Elsinore, they called me back and had what I was looking for.:D

Just got my Wabs this week. 7,299 OTD (that took a lot of work, BTW) from CalCoast in Ventura and they have 2- 650 '06's in red that will go for 6,700 OTD or lower if you're any good at poker.;)

Wow, 7,300. That's what I'm talkin' 'bout.

Thanks for all the advice on getting a good deal. I've also been pricing insurance. I have my dirt bike (DR250S) covered by Progressive for about $87 a year. Progressive wants a whopping $1700 to add a new WeeStrom. They say it is clasified as a Sportbike! Yikes! Seems a bit high for a clean record.

When I got my insurance they said the same thing they did not show a DL 650 in their data base. Once I told them that my bike did not have a turbo the price came way down.

$1,700 is way too high... I used to be on Progressive, but changed to Geico when it was way cheap... I'm in the $400s with a brand new '06 DL650... Run a quick quote on their website (takes a little time, but is worth the effort).

That defintely doesn't sound right. When I was shopping for a new bike, I priced the insurance on a new Z750, a used Futura and then the DL1000. That is what sold me. Essentially a litre sport bike for dual sport prices on insurance. I got quoted recently about $400 a year for full coverage and I'm only 21. Pretty darn good, IMO.

Barstow motorsports has the best advertised OTD prices that I've seen. 6,499 for the Wee, 8,999 for the Liter.

Yea, allstate classified the 650 as a sportbike too, but for me (a new rider) it was only like $550/yr (80020). Check around, ask if they have AMA discounts too :)

I tried Geico and with a lot better coverage it was only $398 a year! Called Progressive back and it seems they do class the V-Strom in with the Ninjas and other Sportbikes. The best they could do was $1200 with lower coverage. Hope to join the WeeStrom owners circle soon!

I just purchased my 07 DL650 at FunBike in San Diego last week for $7000 OTD. I definitely could have saved some money by driving up to the L.A. area, but FunBike is about a mile away from where I work. This will work out well for any dealer service required, plus they have a 15% discount on accessories if you want to add on after purchasing the bike.

How much is added on to a bike purchased in CA? I mean, I got a OTD quote from that website for a 07 Wee...$6695.00. How much of that is tax, fees etc?

I just got my DL650K7ABS from Hahm Motorsports in Anaheim for $7200 OTD. Speak to Dan Acostas, he's their internet sales guy, very helpful, great deal!
I LOVE this bike.

Bert's in Covina matched OTD's price of $7299 on a 2007 V-Strom 650 ABS. I'm about to try Hahm's in Anaheim. Their webpage says they'll beat any deal by $100. That's where Anthony got his so I thought I'd give them a try.
Oh, and for insurance, Geico quoted me $193 a year for full coverage. Must help that I'm old hahahaha.

You can go to Hahm's website directly for quotes. Please let Dan know that you were sent by Anthony :)
He's not a friend of mine, just a really cool, down to earth sales guy. No pressure tactics, and I respect that. Just trying to spread good karma.

I bought my 2005 V-Strom 650 on a Saturday afternoon in February of 2006 from a dealer on East Colfax in Denver for $5600 plus tax (no other fees). It was minus 4 degrees out, they hadn't sold anything all day (wonder why?) and had a blue leftover Strom still in the crate.
Then they knocked 20% off any accessories I wanted, and since it hadn't been assembled yet, put them on for hardly anything extra. So I bought the Suzuki Handguards, the Suzuki heated grips, and the centerstand at the same time. Forget what I paid for them, but it was very reasonable.
They didn't have all the parts in stock so I came back the next Saturday, and trailered the bike back up to the mountains where I live. It started snowing on the way home, so when I pulled in the driveway, my Strom was covered with snow, and 0 miles on it. It was quite the sight!
I don't think this snow ploy would work so well in California.

I had the same problem with Progressive and my Vee. I went to state farm and they don't lump it in with the sport bikes. I bundled with my car/rent and ended up at 600/year

May want to check Geico as well. Free online quotes. Full coverage for me was $373/year (for a Vee) with 1 ticket on my record.

Sometimes OTD advertises in the Los Angeles edition of Recycler.com,the last time I looked they wanted $6699 for a Wee without ABS,I went down last year and got them down a $100 to $6499 from the price of $6599 at the time, then used that quote to leverage a deal at my local Suzie dealer,he charged me $150 more but it was worth it,his mechanics are better paid and do good work and they had to put it together.A dealer in Simi wanted $8200 for the same bike so its good to shop around
K7 WEE OTD $6755, State Farm $240 1/2 year $380 full year

Reviving a post here since the question never got answered. I've seen a lot of posts recently in the other forums on this site where riders are paying significantly less than us CA people. Everyone in this thread seems to have paid around where I did, but around the country they get a much better deal. Anyone know why Wee's are so cheaper outside CA? I'm usually pretty good at getting a deal, but when I saw recent posts seeing the price other state residents are paying, I started thinking I got used.

When I lived in SoCal I bought a half dozen or so bikes from http://www.otdcyclesports.com as they always had a price that no one else would beat and had a great selection. Found left overs quite a bit of the time too. Great to hear you got Cal Coast to bargain down. I never had such luck. I bought 3 dirt bikes and they were over $1500 higher than LA Honda ( http://www.otdcyclesports.com) I did buy a couple of bikes from Cal Coast when they were in the old shop(s) and they always had a good service department.
The local dealer here, sold me a DL1000 for $100 over the http://www.otdcyclesports.com price. Good to be armed with info...
