Guys:
There is a new place to rent bikes in Portand. It's called NW Motorcycle Adventures. He just opened up. I had a chance to talk to him at Wingman a while ago. He and his partner went in and bought 4 new 07 650 V-stroms and a bunch of gear. Now you can spend a whole day riding one before you decide. I put a bug in his ear that I would pay $20 to rent an aftermarket windshield or seat to test for an hour or so before buying (maybe through him). Check out his web page, it would be neat to see him succeed.
