Well the quick and short story is that I did a tour on my old ZR-7 Kawasaki in February of 2006 and while out and about I really got to thinking about buying an 'adventure tourer' style of bike.

It basically came down a choice of 3 (Aprilia Pegaso, BMW F650GS and Suzuki V-Strom 650) but getting a test ride was damn difficult. I could not locate a dealer who had an Aprilia, or a dealer prepared to let me take out an F650GS (one had a Scarver but did not want it) but did find a dealer with a Weestrom. But, he was not prepared to let me take it on dirt, not even a short 500 metre or so ride so it made it difficult and I was not prepared to spend dollars on an unknown quantity so it looked like a forlorn hope.

But then, up pops a mate of mine (Greg - Wobbler) who had a mate trying to sell a super low mileage WeeStrom (by low mileage read 12/2004 model with 1500 kms) and a test ride was arranged. Not just any old test ride here but a good run from Nowra to Nerriga on to Bungonia, Meryla National Park, Kangaroo valley and Nowra again. All up around 400 kays with about half dirt, who was I to argue (but I was damn appreciative).

So to cut the long story short, the test ride was impressive and I bought the bike, but whilst on the ride we took a few pics (there were 3 of us on the ride, Greg on the KToom950, Andrew on the Pagaso and yours truly on the WeeStrom).

So here are a few sample pics with more on the link.

My personal favourite (Greg on the Ktoom 950)

We hit this place in the middle of nowhere and had a good price feed. Just love the car park, our 3 bikes and another 3 dirt bikes behind the building.

There was water

Which bought smiles.

Oh yeah, and a bridge (some guy felt it best to save tyre wear).

Yeah, and some fat guy on a WeeStrom (this was actually my very first incline that involved any type of 'rock jumping').

I was keen on getting a KTM950. I got a DL1000 which suits me, but the KTM rules the dirt. How did the wee go in the rough stuff?

It did quite well but I don't know if what I though was rough really was as this was my firt real dirt ride.

I have had her out and about a bit since and while it has ground clearance issues it does everything I could ask of it. But being fair, I have turned back a few times from places that I was not prepared to go alone and only once because it was to gnarly (a mate on an enduro said he wouldn't go there either) so all up it is impressive (for me)
