Well Larolco, are we out of line in thinking these weather patterns are a conspiracy???

I don't know how the weather was out in Langley, but it was a rather rude awakening for me this morning...

It was supposed to be too warm for rain / snow / slush!

Ah well, patience is a virtue, they tell me...:???:

Oh ya, the wonderful weather here in B.C. Snowmobile sales must be going through the roof.

As I walked into work this morning, through the slush-laden parking lot, my feet made a sound something like, "squamish, squamish."

I got up at around 4 o'clock this morning when a massive slab of snow slid off my roof and woke my wife up, who made me get out of bed to see what happened, besides the obvious.

I happily noted that the driveway was still clear and that there was no sign of fresh snowfall. I went back to bed looking forward to the first ride on the V in a week or so.

I got up again at 6 o'clock to find two fresh inches of slush in my driveway.

Maybe tomorrow?

I just have to wonder if this type of winter weather will be the norm and not the exception around here from now on. With what ICBC charges us for insurance, I am going to take a real hard look at only insuring 6 months this year. Why not save 50% of an already ridiculous $1475.00 insurance tab, when the bike is idle in the garage most of the time anyway. I admire you guys who ride in all sorts of sh*t, but I'm a fair weather guy and not ashamed to admit it.

Well, I was able to ride to work pretty much every day (except for the big dumpings) until Christmas holidays. I haven't had a lot of luck this past couple of weeks, though.

Big rains forecast for the next few days, so I'm hopefull the snow and salt will be washed away before long.

I've got to get this thing in for its 6K service in a couple hundred Ks.

Hopefully I can burn them off next week.

Well here the snowmobile salesmen are very, very happy. This is the first winter in awhile the snowmobilers have been able to get more than a week of sledding at a time.
The Motorcycle riders (me) aren't quite so happy about the riding conditions but on the bright side, my snowshoes have finally had the cobwebs knocked off them.

Was that popping sound I just heard the air rushing in to the spot in the garage where the bike used to sit?

WTY: Do you use Megson Fitzpatrick? Saves me about $300/yr.

WW: I only capitalize "Squamish" when the slush gets above my ankles.

BCB: Bike's still parked. But I think I see the sun coming out and the slush has melted. I just need an excuse to go out.

Anyone going to the bike show in Abbotsford next week?

Got a great ride in today. Malahat, Cowichan, Duncan. Coffee at Timmies. Back home. I want you guys to forget my last dumb-ass comment about only insuring 6 months a year. It was made when I was under duress due to snow.

Yes, I use Megson for optional coverage.

Going to the show on Thursday. :D

Will excuse the dumb-ass comment. See any tulips sprouting while you were out?

Managed a ride to the gas station to fill up. Lots of sand on the roads still.

Planning to hit the show on Saturday, methinks.

No tulips yet. Still lots of ice and snowy spots on the Malahat. Guess we won't meet up at the show. Too bad. I'll be leaving my Visa at home so I don't buy any more freakin' bike jackets. Got 6 now. Have to sell a couple off. I'm the Imelda Marcos of motorcycle apparel. Just can't lay off the stuff. So there should be some stuff left for you. :D

I picked up a nice black leather jacket there last year. I'm in the market for a new wet weather jacket, though. The zippers are wearing out on my Joe Rocket.

Lemme know if you see anything cool Strom-related.

No tulips here either.

check out Beacon Insurance for the optional part of it. My wee costs about 350 for a full year of theft/collision/fire for replacement cost and includes a pretty good gear rider too.

What are you valuing the bike at for the optional? My ING is $492.00 based on $12,000.00 value. (It's first year, will drop that some now.) Ridergeek, where do get Beacon Insurance. Maybe I'll give them a try.

Hey Larolco. No worries. I'll probably just keep it with the other 5, while I inevitably buy more of them. Hopelessly addicted to bike jackets. Gonna be a hell of a garage sale one day.

It does look like a run of pretty good weather coming up for the next few days. Going to try to gather up a posse for a morning / lunch run to Jordan River tomorrow. Bike show on Thursday. Should be a great week. :D

Going to try to drop the bike off for service on friday, maybe ride to the show on saturday if my buddy will agree to sit on the back. His is parked for the winter.

Maybe you could open a stand at the show and sell your jackets there?

I've got Beacon for my brand new Vee as well - it was $415.

I got it through my local agent, I'm not sure where it would be on the island.

Great idea. I'll be the guy with the sunglasses selling jackets out of a van in the parking lot! :D

Enjoy the show! Looks like we are into some dynamite weather for the next six days or so. Have you heard how the S to S highway is now?

BC-Bruce. Who is your agent? I am going to try to track down Beacon here in Victoria.

No first hand info, but I'm sure you're fine as far as Squamish, maybe Whistler. Side roads have been snow/slush free in Langley for a couple of days now.

Getting the bike re-mapped on Friday. Will let you know the results.

I bought my coverage through Envision in White Rock.

http://www.beacon724.com/products.php?pid=7

But give them a call to find the closest broker to you.

I insured mine(04 wee with some farkles) at about 8500.

However, it's a 'fully vested'(i think that's the term) policy, meaning it's for 12 months and if you cancel it for winter storage, you don't get any refund.

They got their start in the okanagan selling insurance for rec vehicles/boats/etc and have now branched into bikes.

What's wrong is you went for a walk and I went to work. At least I got to ride back and forth.

I was coming home this evening and popped a couple of wheelies and went for another and broke the rear loose. Got nicely sideways. Tonnes o' fun.

Guess it's a little icy out.

WW: Any pix of your mudflap? Thinking of making my own.

Larolco, sorry no pics but here is a description of cheap, ugly and effective. One cheap flap cut down to a 8x8 inch square, round out the corners til you are satisfied. This will make it wider than the fender. Bolt on to said fender so 6 inches hang down below the fender. DOES NOT LOOK PRETTY but it did keep my feet dry in an extended downpour on the highway. Flaps come in a 2 pak so you have a spare in case you tear it off. So far so good.

BC-Bruce

Those flaps sound pretty good. Or at least a good idea. I'm kinda surprised at the amount of crap that has "shown up" on my radiator... That can't be a good thing.

In other news... All hail the mighty Vee!

I was off work today doing a lot of running around, and I was on Hwy 91 in overdrive (for the very first time other than my test ride) doing 120 (it was the flow of traffic, honest!) A semi decided he wanted the lane I was in. I saw his under-trailer light blink, and I twisted the throttle. I didn't gear down, but that sweet engine just picked up and howled... Shot right past him!

Sweeet!

(Lovin' that Vee Strom kool-aid!)

Left thumb on the horn button, BCB.

Yes, the horsepower is nice, isn't it?

I like to hang out right in front of the offender for a while just to make him think about the bad thing that he's done. Sometimes, on the freeway, I ride right alongside and smile at them. I love the ones that refuse to make eye contact.

Well, whatever I end up with, it must look pretty. Otherwise it wouldn't fit the bike. ;)

I know you have a camera and I know you know someone who knows how to operate it and post photos - even if you claim incompetence. Pix please.

I mean, really, it's not like you're out riding or anything.

I've still got the pathetic little road runner "meep-meep" stock horn on the beast... I've got to pick up a new fuse block and wire up the Stebel, currently collecting dust on my shelf.

Have you got any luggage on your beast? I'm starting to look a little more seriously and was wanting some ideas.

I've got a little micro Givi thing on the back. Holds a helmet and that's about it. I only got it because it's what the dealer had in stock when I bought the bike.

It's ok for what it is, but I'll get something with more capacity someday.

Beats a backpack, anyway.

When I get serious about it, I'll be looking for a full luggage system.

The horn's not that pathetic, if you ask me. Seems to get people's attention. I'll be curious to hear your Stebel, once it's hooked up.

Ah, I new she'd come through!

Seriously, I'm interested to see how you went about it. I'm planning on doing the same thing. I'm not interested in a hard plastic extension. I want a mudflap.

Thinking rivets would be the best route. I'd like to mount it to the outside of the fender, though, so as not to encourage a build-up of mud within the fenderwell.

I patiently await the pix.
