I hope you set one of these up again... I'm out of town on the 3rd, but always looking for fellow Stommers for riding.

BTW: I own that same map collection..

Yep, San Timoteo is a nice ride, two lane and not too many cages to contend with. There is a little construction going on at the east end but no big deal.
Count me in too.

Jerry:)

For some reason, I dont think its a "short cut" ;)

Thought it might be nice to get off the slab for a while. What d'ya think?

Im all for it!

Sorry about your dismount FE. We will ride in momory of your poor Strom! Keep us updated on the insurance and stuff. I hope the guy has insurance. I know the area, and most of the trucks look like they are hardly road-worthy, let alone have insurance.

I love short cuts, go outta my way to find them:-D

I was thinkin of inviting my boss. Then I remembered he owned a BMW K-1200-S. We would see him at the start, then thats it. Hehehe.

BTW. Who's got the radar detector? Im sure we will need it on the slab ;)

FastEddie
01-18-2007, 04:00 AM
So I had a Suzuki 350 tha I used to ride in the desert in Tucson. But I have not been out on my strom on dirt. Would this shortcut make a good initiation ride? I mean, would it build confidence or would it be more like hazing?

gibbage
01-18-2007, 04:12 AM
Is the short cut off-road?

I do have off-road experance, but in my 88 Jeep Wrangler. I think taking a 420lb Wee off-roading would be a bit tough for me, considering I only have 2000 miles on it and im a new rider.

Jblk9695
01-18-2007, 10:10 AM
The short cut is just a two lane paved road, so nothing to get too excited about:)
Wait till summer and then we could plan a ride to the San Bernardino mountains and some off road adventures, all hard pack but should be fun to explore.

I'm thinking somewhere around Corona and maybe meet Jerry in Redlands?

Jblk9695
01-22-2007, 11:13 PM
Sounds good to me, I'm thinking the parking lot at the San Bernardino Museum. Just get off the 10 frwy at California st and go north under the frwy to the first right and follow around to the museum. We just need a time. Let me know if that sound ok. Attached are a couple of photos of San Timoteo Canyon.

gibbage
01-23-2007, 03:58 PM
Thats fine for me. I need to go South anyways. No use for you guys to come up here, and then go south.

MightyShep
01-23-2007, 05:33 PM
Okay guy's here's what I have so far.

Everyone except Jerry will meet at IHop in Corona @ 8:00am. Then we meet up with Jerry after that. Jerry is it more than 45 minutes from Serfas Club DR./Auto Center Dr. in Corona to Redlands? I figure we can meet Jerry at the Museum he mentioned at 9:00 am. Then we can hit the road and take the loop.

Jblk9695
01-23-2007, 06:33 PM
Should take about 30 mins. to the museum from Corona. Then we can motor south on California St. to Barton Rd. and east to San Timotao Canyon. Should be fun, I'm looking forward to the adventure.

Looks like a big loop! How many hours total?

Jblk9695
01-24-2007, 12:21 AM
I would guess 5-8 depending on speed, traffic and the need for food, always need food and an occasional pit stop, if you know what I mean;)

Jerry

MightyShep
01-24-2007, 12:52 AM
It's 225 miles so Jerry's right on with 5-8 hours. Maybe less, depends on how fast we go. There are some areas of slab where we can make time, but there are also some nice roads worth enjoying, and there's no rush.

ronnie
01-24-2007, 01:49 AM
Sounds good! I like the no rush part.
I should be there if weather permits -no rain please- if you accept an sv rider with you...not the squid type though;-)

Sweet! The more the better! This will be my first ride, so breakfast is a good idea to go over some things with me. Im stoked about this! I will try and bring my friends good camera and capture some memories for the poor Canadian SOB's that have there Stroms boxed ATM. HA! Keep your free health insurance! At least I can ride in the winter!

MightyShep
01-24-2007, 06:37 PM
If we're going to eat maybe we should make it 7:00 or 7:15. That way we can make sure we get to Jerry at 9:00. Is that too early?

Jblk9695
01-24-2007, 09:13 PM
Not to throw a monkey wrench in the works, but perhaps we could meet for breakfast around the 10 and 215 interchange. There's a Denny's diner off of Tippecanoe and the 10 or a Mimi's at Waterman and the 10. If you have Google Earth you can do a search with dinning checked, although Mimi's didn't show up on mine, the building did but no name.
What do you think? Might be better for those coming from the L.A. area.

Jerry:-D

MightyShep
01-24-2007, 09:41 PM
Whatever works. I'd like to get everyone together before we roll out so that's okay with me.

gibbage
01-24-2007, 10:06 PM
I agree that the 10 and 215 is a better meeting place for me, and in fact thats about where the starting poing is on the map. I would be going out of my way to get to the 91, and then backtrack a little.

MightyShep
01-25-2007, 01:00 AM
New meeting point! Exit I-10 @ Tipacanoe. Left on Tipacanoe and then right on Rosewood. Meet at the Denny's @ 9:00 am.

That wold be the inherent shortcomings of the mapping software.:p Ideally we would follow the exit ramp and turn onto Tippacanoe. I have no idea why it does that.

That's why programmers get the big bucks, so they can mess with us:-D
I just ordered a butt pad from Alaska leather after reading the Monkey Butt discussion, figured better to be safe than sorry and my usual trip length lately has been around 100 miles so this one will try my rear end a bit:-D
Looking forward to it and meeting everyone.

Gents; Just popped onto the regional forum. It's been a while and I'm glad I looked at it when I did. I've been looking forward to a ride with some fellow Strommers.
9am at that Denny's just may work for me. I am going through some post surgery Physical Therapy on my ankle but I should be good for a ride. I have been out twice this past week on some 1 hour rides around the SD county and if the "boss" doesn't give me too dirty of a look when I bring up this subject on oh say about Thursday with her then I should be meeting you guys. I'll probably ride the loop with you as far as San Juan Capistrano and then hit the 5 South to home. Who's in so far? Is there a plan to P.M. phone #'s prior to Saturday's meet & greet?

Jblk9695
01-29-2007, 12:37 AM
I'd say just show up at Denny's for the meet and greet.
I think 4 or 5 are going so far, see post 18.

FYI-- Watch the Tippecanoe off ramp, it may be backed up to the frwy. Last Sat it was around 10:00, not sure how it will be a little before 9:00. If it is backed up and you don't want to fight with the cages just continue on to Mountain View(about a mile) and get off there, go right to Redlands Blvd and go right back to Tippecanoe, go right again(I'm getting dizzy) back under the 10 frwy and go to Dennys. Sounds like a bit out of the way but you get to keep moving:-D

Didn't get too many pics, we were having to much fun just enjoying the twisties. I really liked the Trabruco - Santiago Canyon run, how about the guy on the cruiser, he'd give any sport bike a good run thru the canyon's!
Loosing the vid from the one run was dissapointing as I was the STAR, hogged all the sceens:rolleyes:
Had some great Italian food in San Jaun Capistrano and great weather, the photo of the palm trees is one Shep took for all the Canadians, something to warm you up:mrgreen:

Hey MS and jblk9695. Nice vid and photos. Yup, them are some strange looking trees. We're known for some strange looking "trees" up here as well. ;) MS, I felt for the two guys behind you. They must have been doing some serious caning on those bikes to keep you in sight.

If you make it here this summer Shep, you'll be needing the wide angle because I can think of at least three riders who'll be right on your pipes! Canuckleheads, chime in!

On a more serious matter, how do you like your Givi shield? It looks like you have it mounted low. Do you look over it or through it? I haven't bought anything in a couple of weeks and am getting antsy.

gibbage
02-05-2007, 03:50 AM
Considering I only had 2000 miles total on two wheels, I think I did good on my little blue wee! Shep was keeping a good pace out there on Ortega, but we got slowed down by a few beemers. Ugh! Then I took lead in my backyard in So-OC and showed them a good ride through my backyard. At first, we were behind a cruiser, and then he took off! I was shocked at the pace he had! After a few turns, I never saw him again till we hit Cooks Corner!

In all, one of the best time I have had on my bike, and that one trip made the investment in the DL-650 all worth it. I cant wait for the next run! Watching the film now.

He had his mounted on a Mad Stad, and was angled steep and low so he could see well over it. I also have the Givi on my bike, and have it in the lowest position. I find it 10x better then stock. Im able to ride at 85-90MPH confortably, and still see over it. The stock shield was bouncing my head at 65MPH.

Well guys I obviously missed the ride. I got a major flu going here that I still am not fully recovered from. I also managed to get the s/o really good and sick too. I figured I'd spare you guys the possible contamination and my having to stop every 15 minutes for a bathroom break :-). On the up side I have dropped about 6 pounds it is one hell of a way to jumpstart a diet. So whens the next one? I look forward to meeting you guys. Awesome video I suppose until the next ride I will have to live vicariously through you guys. Take care.

WTY I like the Givi. So much so that my Cee Bailey 23.5 is gathering dust in the closet. Here's the thing with the Givi. The optics are not the greatest but the look fits the bike better than the hourglass shaped Cee Bailey. I have it low for two reasons. One I like looking over a shield not through it, and two that position gives me the least wind noise in my modular helmet. I saw that the Givi's are now coming without that crappy black edge so that's a plus. All in all a very good shield for the money. I do have the madstad bracket also. I love that thing.
