But the weather got in the way. So much for a 'trace' of snow in the Portland area. I don't want my new 'adventure' bike's first ride to be straight up a ramp and into the back of my truck, so I may have to wait a day or two for this to melt.

I just wanted to see who else was out there, and say 'hi'. I only joined this site a few days ago, but it has already helped me out with making the decision to buy a DL. I had been looking for an 'adventure' bike for a while, and did some test rides over the past weeks. Riding a 'strom (after trying all the other adventure bikes) was the clincher, that and the realization that the v-strom is the only bike whose apperance is improved by a pair of huge aluminum panniers.

I know what you mean... I was looking forward to getting my heated grips on and riding to class tonight... not gonna happen. Class was cancelled as was school for my son and work for my wife... we get a rare "Family" day so teh grips will wait and I will look forward to this snow melting so I can go for a ride. I need a fix bad...

Congrats on your purchase and I look forward to seeing you at one of our get togethers.
We are meeting Saturday to talk about the Reno trip. If you are interested you should come by.

Fisherman,
Thanks for the invite, but I don't think I can head to Reno then. I bought this bike with an AlaCan highway ride up to Anchorage in mind, and we are planning on going in early June.
I do want to do some break-in rides over the next few months to get ready for the big trip. There is a planning meeting for a ironbutt 'saddlesore' (1000mi/24hrs) on Feb 1st. I was thinking about doing that, depending on when they decide to do the ride. If I can handle that the AlaCan highway won't be a problem.

BR650RRrider:
Welcome to the group! My brother went out and bought a 1K after riding my 6fifty. Bang for the buck, Strom is the only way to go.

Our little Portland area group is steadily growing, you're welcome to do breakfast on Saturday and meet the rest of us. We hope to get together on a somewhat regular basis to jaw and, weather permitting, ride.

Just read an article about the "Utah 1088", put on by the Iron Butt Assoc.(if memory serves). If this new gel seat works, maybe I'll try one this summer.

The meeting is at Pro-Caliber motorsports in Vancouver (Just East of 205 on Fourth Plain). Time is 6:45PM on Thurs, Feb 1st. The street address if you want to mapquest it: 10703 NE Fourth Plain Blvd, VanWA 98662.

The meeting will be to plan the route and decide on a date. I guess they are thinking of heading out to E Washington so that most of it will be done on lightly traveled 2-lane.

When and where on Saturday for breakfast?

Here's the address. If you look on the "events" board, and open the Gathering thread, Mr. Fisherman has a map. Couldn't get it to copy to this post.

"We will be getting together at the Golden Touch for a 10:30a.m. breakfast meeting next Saturday, January 20th. (503) 245-2007

Nachodaddy-
Thanks. I am not sure if I can make it yet, I have to negotiate with the wife. If not, will I see any of you at the Ironbutt planning meeting?

If I am not otherwise restrained, I'd like to watch the process.

BR,
It was probably a good decision to hold off on delivery in light of the four inches of snow we recently had. I have owned a K5 for about nine months now and I really think the Strom is thew swiss army knife of bikes. I handles well on the twisties, has a jewel of a motor and can tackle moderate dirt and gravel as long as I remain mindful of the weight. It ain't a sportbike, but I am sure it's other attributes will more than make up for that.
