Just registered to attend the "Gathering" in Reno this June, 1st-3rd with a Thursday night stop at the northern pre-gathering location in K-falls where there will also be activities. Sounds like a kick. Noticed there were a few local guys going, no one I recognize from this forum. It would be cool to get a gaggle together from this area and mob the place. Think about it. Here is the link.

Also, the Hell's Canyon Rally is the following weekend (June 8-10). This is our 2-up event, Reno is my solo trip. Check this one out also.

I have been thinking about both of them but alas there is not enough vacation for them all.
My better half will have more vacation after July 1st..

There is about an 80% chance I will go.

Well if I go, and the odds are increasing... I will very likely head to Kalamath Falls a day or two early to visit with a friend.
It looks like the hotel is booked so I don't know where I am staying yet.
ND, do you have a room. If you do does it have an extra bed? :D

Well CRAP! Now I have reservations too!
I guess I better tell erm I mean ask the wife
I am game to ride with about anyone who wants to.
I need to get busy installing my farkles and getting a few more necessities (ok, maybe not necessities but I want them  )
I gotta say I am getting prety excited about this event and the ride there...
Mr. Fisherman

By the way, My reservation is at Boomtown and I opted for a non smoking room with 2 queen size beds...
This part made me nervous...
"Our better-than-ever guest rooms now include luxuries like new easy-heat iron and ironing board, swivel bathroom vanity mirror and roomy shower curtain."
Roomy shower curtain? I don't think I want to know...
If anyone catches me wearing the roomy shower curtain for God's sake and PLEASE, No pictures.... I am having too much fun.
It looks like I have room for 1 if anyone wants to share expenses.
I am also interested in sharing a room with someone else ( as long as I get my own bed)
It is all about doing this cheap

I'll split the Boomtown room with ya. If I remember right, that's the Reno hotel, right? Still need a pillow in K-falls. Sounds like we are getting a regular gaggle together, Awsome!

I'll be heading down to K-falls Thursday am. It would really be fun to travel as a pack, safety in numbers and all. As it gets closer, we'll have to decide on a route, meeting place, etc. Better yet, we can try to get together ahead of time to map things out and get to know each other.

Hey Guys:
Just talked to Vince at the Golden West Motel in K-falls(the northern meeting place). He still has some rooms left for $35! I'm set, but you need to call him direct before they are all gone. Nice guy, should be fun.

Getting together would be great! Looks like we're both in Beaverton, I usually have breakfast Saturdays at the Golden Touch resturant on Barbur at 10:30 am. If anyone wants to show up we can talk about the trip. All are welcome. I'll be the older, blonde guy at the counter.

Beserker and all, I am looking forward to the ride.
I think we should try to get together to discuss options and possabilities.
I think it would be nice to see Crater Lake and maybe a few more neat areas on the way.
Like I said earlier I have friends in K Falls. They may be open to letting a few of us tent there if we want.
I have friends in Cresswell I'd like to see n the way down or on the way back as well.
Lots to do.
Sounds like both Nachodaddy and I have room reservations so there is plenty of room to double up and each have their own bed.
Lets hav a pre pre pre planning trip meeting? Maybe we could call it breakfast... or lunch... or whatever.
I have to work this soming Saturday but I am willing to make it to Beaverton to try breakfast with you all.
I think it should be open to anyone with an interest in the trip.
What do you all think?
Maybe next Saturday morning... not too early :-D .

Shep, I think most of us are staying at the Boomtown or something like that. There is a link to the hotel in the first post in this thread.
Hope to see you there.
By the way, the Boomtown is ride central... which is largly why I am staying there. I want to "enjoy" the festivities without risking a drive back after consuming adult beverages ;) .

I wish I could have joined you all, just to meet fellow strommers and hear about the Reno rally some more to help me dicide if I would be up for going.
Unfortunately, I had to pick up cabinets for our kitchen remodel that morning, but I did get out for an hour ride in the afternoon on my "new to me" liter. Oh, and I got my Kappa/OEM side bag brackets mounted to mount my OEM bags. I have plenty of storage in the event I do take the trip to Reno.
Now that the roads are nice and cleared, it's back to Strommuting to work again. Got a nice ride in this morning, and heading to BHY over lunch to find a pair of new boots (no moisture protection in my all leather engineer boots).

Me and my strom were involved in a collision on Fri :'(
I was making a left turn on the green arrow, following an older
van, and some inattentive cager ran the red on the oncoming side of the
intersection, taking out the van at just shy of 40mph in the right front
quarter panel/wheel, sending it backwards into me and my bike. I tried
to an emergency stop, and at least avoided a direct head on with the back
side of the van, but still laid the bike down and kissed the rear bumper of
the van.
Cager was cited and ticketed for failure to stop, etc...
If I had been 5 minutes earlier on my commute, swaping positions with
that van, I'd likely have been attending my own funeral today.
Complete damage to the bike is not known yet. I should have the estimate by mid week. Plastics for sure. Clutch lever, left front indicator, left foot peg, front fender, bar ends, knuckle guards all have visible damage. No ideas on the forks and frame.
Trying to file against the offending driver, but their Insurance Co (Progressive) is trying to weasel their way out by claiming I was at fault for my own damages, and that it was not a chain reaction.
Plenty of witnesses, no idea what their stories are though. Cop took pics, but no report!
I'm trying to get legal help now...so frustrated, depressed and sore.

Sorry to hear about the bike, but the upside is you came through it relatively undamaged (other than pride and the Strom). Had a narrow miss this weekend myself. Some lady yelling at her kids blows through a stop sign without even slowing down. If I hadn't been watching her I would have gotten creamed! She was through the intersection before she ever saw me.
Some of these damn cagers out there are so inattentive! Not only do you have to drive for yourself, you gotta drive for them to! And don't get me started on people yaking on cell phones instead of devoting their limited skills to driving!
Anyway, glad to hear you came through it ok. Take care and Saturday breakfast is open to all!

are all heading down on 05/31 and overnighting at the KFalls ground zero motel. There maybe camping space available, but you might want to confirm that by phone with them. Then on to Reno!! I think Ray(Fisherman) has a pretty good route planned for us! Always open to suggestions, I prefer non-slab type roads.

No, I still have the reservations. It's at an RV park (no tents) at the central oregon coast that is very private and RIGHT ON the beach. Great location. I only prepaid for one night, and I'll get that night as a "rain check". No big deal. I've got 4 trips planned there this year.

As talked about at the last Breakfast meeting, I will heading down through K-Falls with the group, then on to Reno. But I'll probably not stick around long. Saturday I'm going to head due west and hit the coast, then hwy 1 all the way back north.
I've reserved a room in K-Falls the first night with everyone else. But I'm going to camp the rest of the trip. Any campers would be welcome company.
I haven't set a route for the trip west, so if you think you might want to go my way, we should talk soon. PM me.
Also, does anyone have any good camping suggestions for the Reno area? I need to make sure I have somewhere to throw a tent down! That's my next task.

So how many Strommers in the Portland Breakfast Club have registered? I just went to the Reno gathering website and there were only 28 registered, and I didn't see any from the Breakfast Club. I know I registered a while back, and I'm pretty sure Berserker did. But we're not listed. Can't prepay for dinners until registered, but is registration working?
Any others? Am I not seeing the entire registration list?

Berserker, Nachodaddy, Gustavo, NW Strom, Ratspike, Doug in Skamina, Nvr2old, Mj stromer and myself stand out on that list, though Gustavo has yet to make an appearence at BC... That is 9 and I know there are more...

By the way.... if you are on that sheet you are registered... but you need to send your payment to get raffle tickets and your dinner confirmation number.

For some reason, when I was accessing the pag the database had an error and was only displayng 28 entries. I went back to the page later and it showed all the registrants. Go figure. That's why I don't gamble!

Also, does anyone have any good camping suggestions for the Reno area? I need to make sure I have somewhere to throw a tent down! That's my next task.
No idea how good these will turn out to be but if you scroll down that page a bit there's three campgrounds listed.

As an aside, at the wedding I shot on Saturday I was talking with the groom's brother who lives in Reno. For Memorial Day Weekend he said to expect wet, possibly with a bit of wet combined with a good chance of more wet or perhaps a little frozen wet, at least around Dog Valley. I haven't looked at Reno weather yet so I have no idea if he was telling the truth or just putting me on. Is there anyone who went and camped last year who can comment on the weather?

the weather. No body can acurately predict the weather more than a few hours anywhere except for Kansas...summer hot, humid...winter cold.
I typically watch the 10 day advance weather forcasts and plan for the worst. I always carry rain gear and winter gloves when travelling and have only used the rain gear once in 25,000 touring miles. Most the time my weather genie has provided me exceptional weather.
You have to remember though that Reno is nearly 5000' above sea level and most any weather can be expected. This weeks forecast is sunny and in the 70's.
Let's keep our fingers crossed! :D

FYI for anyone who wants to camp at K Falls and is a procrastinator like me, I just spoke with Vince at the Golden West Motel and tent spots are still available. Because I'd put it off I was a little worried I'd be camping under an overpass that night.
I guess whether there'll be a room set aside for showering and such is still up in the air, so I'd suggest making nice with someone who's not roughing it if you want to S, S & S in the morning. :)

Would that have been the return trip from Kentucky, going through Nebraska?

PDX group: I have rooms at K-falls and Boomtown that I can share with someone. Will open it up for locals first, then to the rest of the NW. Let me know.

and I are sharing rooms, and I think the plan for us is to head out Sunday camping our way through Lassen Park, the Redwoods and then Crater Lake. I have a great curvey/scenic route!

Natchodaddy - I didn't get to meet you at BC last week, but met a lot of the other Reno bound. Didn't know til Tues, that I could go. I would be interested in the room share if that would work out (K Falls and Reno). Pm me if it would work for you.

I still need a place to flop in K-Falls but am sharing my room with NW Strom in Reno.
Not sure about departure time on the return trip or the route but we should have time to figure that out down there.
If you want to hit the dams on the way back I could put something together... As long as we are down there anyway we might as well hit the dam down near Redding.... It is one of the furthest of the bonus dams.
