Hey all! I took delivery of my 2007 650 ABS tonight from Motosport Hillsboro! I traded in my Suzuki Boulevard C50 for it. So far I've only had the opportunity to ride it the six or so miles home to Aloha, but I'm loving it! Can't wait to get out and ride, and to meet some of the locals! Come on spring! :D

Welcome to the "Right choice" group! You'll love your new Wee. I bought mine in May at Motosport. Got a good deal. This is a great forum, lots to learn.
It would be a shame to wait til spring to get together. It's been a while since we tried to have a V-lunch. What's a good day for you?

My first post, WOW it feels good to get the bike home at last. I ordered mine back in September and just picked it up Dec. 6 from Ramsey-Waite Co. here in Eugene, Or. I trailered it home that night after work and was going to ride it to work the next morning but thick frozen fog changed that idea. The weather report looked not good for the next 4 days, same thing each morning. This end of the Willamette Valley gets fog a lot. So to put good time to use I have been installing the new gear on the new bike with 0 miles. The first thing done was the H-B center stand, with that installed I was able to hop onboard and pretend. The next night the H-B engine and side guards were installed. Work, work, then yesterday some more bike time again, installed some of the wiring things. I had gotten a Service Manual a few weeks back because I wanted to see if there was an ABS off-on switch, NO there is not. I will run some wire for a furture ABS control switch back to the fuse area while I have the skin off on the bike.

Thanks for the diagram and congrats. I hope mine gets in soon because if gets too close to Christmas, it will have to wait until I get back from Mexico trip for me to do the farkle work. As soon as you do your switch wiring, would you mind doing some pics and detailed description of the project since I'll want to do the same.

Welcome to the group. Another Wee rider, Awsome!
I can tell this isn't your first bike, farkles and mods already. That's what neat about this bike, you can make it your own with practical stuff, not just chrome. We'll expect picures soon.
I'm getting a gel seat for Christmas (love my wife) and planning a few other improvements to add to the ones I have already.

Something you guys need to put on your calendar, Hell's Canyon Rally, June 8-11 at Baker City in Eastern Oregon. Went there last year and plan to do it again this year. Lots of bikes and good riding. It would be great to get a bunch of Strom's there. There were 3-4 last year. As it gets closer, we'll talk more about it.

I had gotten a Service Manual a few weeks back...

Rider, what was your source for the service manual? Dealer, or did you order it online somewhere?

I got the manual from the same people who sold me the bike, and paid $55. I think a real wiring diagram is a BIG help when they add new gear to a bike, like ABS. This last Friday was the first full day of winter and kind of a cold dry day so I had to get out to start my break-in milage. I added 101 fun miles to the in about 2.5 hours, all on rual back roads with a small addition of wet gravel sections. It was a cold fun blast at 41 degrees. When I returned home I found one problem, me. I was rolling up the incline with the bike in neutral in my driveway toward the closed garage door, I should have stopped on a move level area, because as soon as I took my hands off the handlebars to get the remote out, the bike tilted and rolled back. Down it came on the left side, with the new crash bars slamming hard onto the concrete. Cold hands didn't help. Oh well, I knew it was bound to happen anytime with this tall of a bike and I'm still a new born-again rider. I had changed over to flush mount front turn signals, so those had no damage at all. My very next task is to wire into my bike a garage door remote, I have taken mine apart and it does use a small 12volt battery. If I install a jumper across the push button on the back of the small curcuit board, any time it gets power to it, it transmits the open code. The passing light push button switch will work as it should, but with the remote wired in series on "the powered only when pushed side" it will also act as my gdo without taking my hands off the handlebars. Now I just have to find the right place to make the one cut.

Welcome to the group!
I am planning to add a GDO to my bike as well. Several here have done it. Reverandbiker has a nice write up I think.
Anyway, I hope to meet you sooner or later.
I went for a short ride the other day.
Santa is packing farkles for me for sure :D.
I noticed you have a Zumo... how do you like it?

To be honest I didn't play to much with it on the last ride. The first ride, and I needed to pay attention to other things until I feel more at home with her. But I can tell you I have already downloaded 2 free firmware upgrades for the Zumo from Garmin since Nov.18 to fix a few small bugs. I like the fact that it's made for a motorcycle, the tuff outer skin and brite screen is a big plus. I've loaded all maps that are west of the Mississippi, both from the City Navigator NT v8 and the USA Topo from Garmin into it, that's a lot of data. I first backed up the data to the computer, the just started deleting files that I wouldn't use, like most of the spoken text from outside the US. That gave me 500 Mb over the 700 Mb that I started out with. You can only use either the City Nav or the Topo maps, not both at the same time, it's very easy to use the menu to enable or disable them. Loading maps, planning routes, music, pictures, adding bluetooth items are so easy, menus are well thought out to me. The internal battery will last 4 hours they say, and maybe longer if you disable the bluetooth and dim the screen and turn off the XM radio or MP3 player and don't have slideshows. I also like the mounts, one for the bike and one for the car, easy to remove and switch over. The car one even has a speaker built in.

I like your shelf, very clean. We need to get together and talk :D
I am hoping there is a voltmeter/thermometer just like yours under the tree... time will tell.
Did you make that shelf?
I like the way the Zumo looks mounted to your bike... were all the parts needed already in the box?
What tank bag is that?
ok, ok, ok... do you like BBQ? I think it is time we put together an after Xmas lunch ride :D

Almost everything on the bike was mail ordered, after reading all these great posts either here or some other sites. There are so many good ideas out there, like the Pat Walsh shelf, very easy to install. The tank bag is the Rapid Transit, Recon/19, it's just a little different and I liked the features.
Speaking of BarBQ, I used to live in Memphis where they know how to cook pork right. My folks are still back there and they FedEx'ed us some real Corky's pulled pork, it's kind of hard to get some of the real stuff with out rolling on a few miles. Very nice Christmas gift for sure. I hope you'll are in the middle of a nice Christmas wish also, take care and God bless all.

I really like the idea of using the passing light switch, why didn't I think of that?

Busters BBQ is pretty good, not as good as Corky's I would imagin and likely not as good as Cambell's in Portland, but it is about half way between us and the location would mean a decent ride :D .
Lets watch the weather and pick a date.
Thursdays and Fridays are pretty good for me.
I want to get some of my farkles put on... like my heated grips.
My Zumo should be here next Wednesday...
I think Santa has a Starcom 1 advanced wrapped up fo rme too so I will be busy farkeling later this week when I get a day off.
I need to add a panel...

Looks like the weather might be ok for a ride this Thursday or Friday... Wanna do lunch at Busters BBQ in Salem?
The address is 2840 commercial street, Salem OR 97302.

If you are in maybe we could announce a lunch ride adn see who shows up? I bet Nachodaddy would be up for it if his schedule allows.

Well, did you get the GDO working?
in is on my short list now...

Rider1405

Well yes it works fine so far, but the range is greater than I guessed. One time I was about a 10th of a mile away when I turned on my high beams and when I returned from the round the block ride the garage door had been opened. I know any time the high beam headlights get power the GDO sends out one coded pulse, so I'm not worried about the unit going bad. It's 5 years old anyway. Here is a picture of the passing light switch. I added the green wire to the switched side.

Wow it was a very nice day to ride to and from work today, got to 63 degrees at Creswell.

So I am guessing the green wire is on the open side of the switch?
Where did you mount the GDO transmitter?
Did you use your standard Genie transmitter or go to Radio Shack to get a kit?
How difficult was it to route the additional wire from the switch to where you used it?

I am thinking a disable switch might be in order to prevent inadvertantly opening the door...

I am still looking forward to meeting up with you sometime. I have friends in Cresswell and it wouldn't take much to talk me into coming down.

I pulled the thin green up through the wire bundle cover with the help of a length of 17 gauge fence wire and soldered it to the open side of the switch. The Genie opener is the same one pictured early, I've used that one for at least 5 years now when I go bicycle riding. I guess you can install a switch to disable the GDO, but I like it just as it is. I'm just about finished getting ready for a business trip to Arlington, Texas at the end of this month. I'm going to Wee myself down the coast then zig-zag over the Southwest. It's going to be late April for the return thru New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Nevada. I've got my tent and sleeping bag so I'll be keeping a close eye on the weather with the Garmin Zumo on board. I just have a direction to travel and no real plans on where to stay each night. I'll be bring the camera, so let's hope the weather is nice enough.

But where did you mount the Genie?

Sounds like you are going to have a great adventure.
I look forward to your ride reports.

Just up under the left side dash there is a large wire bundle, I wrapped it to that. If you put your head down to the open from the top you can see the red LED come on when it get power.
