The Gauge is crap. shows empty when all I can squeeze into the tank is 17.5 litres.
Consumption - OK on open roads - 180 to 200 miles. Throw in town work - 160 to 165 ish.
Rant Over

This is the first bike I've owned that even has a fuel gauge. I used to wait for the sputtering so I could switch to reserve.

Look at the bright side. Go by the guage and you'll never run out of gas. http://s3.amazonaws.com/advrider/cooltu.gif

Yeah, I guess I'm old-fashioned that way.. I'm used to waiting for the sputter and hesitation, then flipping to reserve. I track my mileage with my odo, not the Fuel Gauge. The whole guage thing is still weird to me. :p
Fuel readings are always a bit funky on the Strom. I suspect it has something to do with the oddly shaped tank and constant sloshing from the movement.

In measurements, the first requirement is that it be repeatable. The second that it be accurate. My K2 passes the first well and not too bad on the second.
Except that the the first "bar" seems to hold more gas than all the others combined. But it's not a lot worse than most cages I've driven.

i go about 300 mile between gassing up. that equals about 5.1 gallons. my gauge starts flashing at 290. i may be lucky that mine is pretty accurate.

Are you saying you are averaging 60 MPG on a 1K??? :confused: You sure that's right?
300 mi / 5.1 gal = 59 mpg!! Those sound suspicously like Wee mpg figures... :cool:
By comparison, I'll often get to 190-200 before my last bar starts flashing... I don't push much past 225, at that point it takes about 5.2 gal to fill back up.
I thought I was getting good mileage @ ~ 41-43 mpg!!

So as you know, my typical journey is a couple of miles of A roads, 17 miles of Motorway (freeway) and 11 miles of the heaviest traffic you can imagine...
My mantra is very slow warmup - 5 miles before going over 5k rpm - then ride it like you stole it - then nice and gentle slowdown for the last mile or two.
I can put up with 40mpg, but would sell my soul (and the fuel gauge) for a reserve tap....
Still lovin the V - and still glad I didn't buy a Varedero.....

You must be going the speed limit. How do you do that?
Best = 53.15 MPG
Worst = 36.915 MPG
Average= 42-48 MPG
OOPS I just realized I'm in the DL1000 forum. Sorry. Never mind.
