Here is my opinion. Not that its worth a sh*t anyways:

I seriously think that the DL1000 is NOT going to be discontinued. Just because they have not come out with an ABS version does not mean it will be discontinued. As far as the emissions excuse everyone is giving is quite frankly bullshit (sorry admins for lang). If they can allow gas guzzler vtwin's such as Harleys, Victory, or any BIG VTWIN cruiser to run in CALIFORNIA...the strictest state as far as emissions go in the U.S, then they can make a 1000cc engine pass emissions. Emissions have noting to do with a discontinue of a bike here in the states. People say its because of the emissions to pass the blame off from lack of sales or unrepairable design flaws . IF and thats a big IF, the DL1000 was to be discontinued for any reason, I believe it will be for a redesign. Maybe for a 800cc or 850cc version.

My best friend owns Fred Cumming's Suzuki in Bakersfield. The biggest dealer in the county. He tells me recalls on bikes I have before the public knows. He tells me allot of shit. If the 1000 was to be canceled he would know. He has contact overseas and here in the US. Im not saying I know every detail of everything before they come out, because I dont. Im just saying I know about SOME stuff just a month or few weeks before the general public has notice. Suzuki already has an 850cc for there Burgmans in the 08 models from the previous 650 models. Chances are it will be carried over into other bikes as well. I would LOVE to see a DL800 or DL850. I would defiantly buy another Strom. Even though I sold my V for a chopper, I will definatly be buying another V in the future for cross country runs once I save a few paychecks. My wife has her own wee and absolutely loves it and said she would cut my hands off if I touch it.

My point is don't count your chickens before they hatch.

Sorry to be so blunt, I just call it how I see it. Thats how I am.

Sounds good to me....hope you are right!!!!! Although the store manager at MY DEALER says it is gone for 08....guess we will see. An 800cc version would be sweet for sure. Doubt if they will go the adventure route, it will more than likely be what Triumph did with the Tiger. Which would really piss me off.

Don't forget that cruisers are all that really seem to matter here in the states, and they really are not pollution machines like everyone thinks. I agree that Zuk could make the changes to the 1000 engine to make it more compliant....but they won't. They will build a new engine from scratch before they did that, cause the 1000 CANNOT be tweaked any further. It already generally runs like poo from the factory, and we have to tweak the heck out of it to make it run like it should.

Good post thread....thanks for starting it!

I also hope you are right Vinny. Your guy sounds like he is on top of things. However I don't think this issue is about emissions in North America, but about emissions in Europe where they sell way more Stroms. If it can't pass there, they likely won't re-tool or keep it alive just to bring it over here, where they can flood the market with Wee's for more profit. I could be wrong, although that hasn't happened in several years. ;)

I am also diggin the 800-850 idea. It will be a great option for when the big boy wears out in 2015 or so.

Big B, I think you are being a little hard on the 06's, which seem to run better from the get go.

Yes they do appear to run a "little" better than previous 1000's. But I read about plenty of 06 models on 2 other moto forums, that also have the low RPM stumble. Have also heard of people getting new ECM's swapped out from an 06 and they still had issues. They would put back the original ECM and sometimes it ran better than the new one did. It is a crap shoot, Suzuki seems to have issues with their computers and they don't even know which ones are affected. Some people have gone as far as swapping 2 ECMS, and the 2nd finally cured the problem.

Europe does sell more 1000 models AND 650's than we could ever hope of selling. But the 650 happens to sell very well here also. The 1000's seem to be selling pretty good as of lately, and I hear of people getting really good deals on them. Seems kinda fishy to me, and I also rarely see 1000 models on show room floors......but I always see a 650.

People seem to think that I am bashing the 1000 model at times, but it simply isn't true. I just try and be honest, state facts and observations, and give people information that they may find useful. I had heard of 1000 issues before I bought mine, and it didn't scare me off. ALL bikes have issues and I don't care what make or model it is! If I was repairing and tweaking my Strom as much as I was riding it, then it would be long gone.
That is the farthest thing from the truth, and my 1000 is a real gem. I know that I could load my bike up with gear and just take off on a big trip....with ZERO WORRIES. How many people feel that secure with some of their choices in motorcycle?;)

It is all about emissions in the future, and before long we will have a difficult time tuning/fixing our bikes at home. It is starting to happen already, just like our cars have been for years. FI systems and computer controlled everything is the present and future for motorcycles. I don't like where it is heading, but it is gonna happen for sure.

You could be right, but my experience with dealers is that they know less than most anyone else about what is coming from the manufacturer. My dealer doesn't even have a clue or any word on the K7650ABS models much less what Suzuki plans for 2008. I imagine we all will just have to wait and find out. Almost everything about future bikes is pure speculation really no matter who thinks they have the "inside scoop". IMHO.

My dealer manager got his info straight from his Suzuki rep, who "is" on the inside. Maybe he is feeding me a load of crap, but I can't see how it would be in his best interest to do so.

Ever since Brendan let him ride his sixfiddy this summer Brain has become a closet Wee-nie.

At least I came out of the closet!!!! Hard to argue against a bike that is as good as the WEENIE. I took a REALLY good ride today, and the big dog ran flawless. The cooler temps really makes it frisky.;) This is the first ride with my new Pro Taper handlebars....WOW does it handle so much better, and is much more comfy. You feel more in control, and the steering seems more precise with great feedback. Makes you realize just how crappy the stock bars truly are. I was really enjoying the roll on power/acceleration of the "Big ole boy" today. I was riding pretty aggressive in the twists, and was rolling out of them briskly. I sure do love the power hit of the 1000, and how wicked the Leo's sound above 6k. I came around one corner, and not too far in front of me were 2 cars putting along. I had some steam built up so I got on the throttle and blew by them at around 115 indicated. Sure didn't take long, to put myself far away from them in my mirrors.:p I truly enjoy this bike everytime I hit that starter button.

Ooops, a thousand pardons master. Forgive the fact that I failed to spell check. Brain certainly did not apply to you. LOL. (or me for that matter)

BTW, where did you get the bars?

No...you did spell "brain" right, so spell check wouldn't have caught it! I too agree that brain does not apply to Brian.

I got the Pro Taper aluminum bars at the Iron Pony. I went with the ATV high bend, and they fit perfect without any mods. I also thought I would try some different grips too, so I went with the Pro Gel 714 dual sport grips. They are very nice grips, and are thicker than the stockers. I never put the bar ends back in, and I have ZERO vibes with these bars. I am gonna keep them off, and go with the 03 model handguards instead.

Sorry Vinny....we are off topic!!!!:(

Ah, Vinny sorry to disagree (not really), but emissions can and will kill lots of products. Try buying a new 2 stroke trail bike. (You're here in Commiefornia: ever deal with red sticker/green sticker? That's all about smog crap on dirt bikes.)

The new Euro3 air standards, which is being modified and adopted here will kill different bikes. Not because they CAN'T pass, but because a company WON'T spend the money to R&D them to pass. The '07 6fiddy was specifically modified to pass the new/pending clean air standards, the liter was not (to this point).

I'm sure the liter bike can pass, but will Suzuki Inc. spend the money to let it pass? Since the bike is a slow seller relative to other models, that is the question. (Personally, I hope they keep it big. Like a more refined 1200 with better bottom end and torque curve. And, then punch the 650 up to a 750 with the same character it currently has.)

Ah, the politics of green are an oft debated and very emotional topic.

the new Ducs are going to 1098cc, and soon you can bet that Suzuki will punch up the SV1000 into the 1200 realm as well to compete with the Ducs. Ducati lobbied to get the displacement increase to make its twins more competitive. It wont be long before the other manufactures follow suite with bigger twins as well. Yeah a DL1200 would be cool!!! Especially if they did something with the rear end to make it look more like an SV1000!!!

That would be a nice thought but.......last time I checked the SV1000 never sold worth a poo! Why would Suzuki give it another try? It is truly a shame, one of the best bikes that nobody bought!

Hey Brian,

I did the same bar mods and grips as you did but haven't had the chance to try it out since she is undergoing more mods, Ohlins full adjustable rear and springs frnt with revalving. Will see how she will behave but frm what you say, it will be extremely nice. Oops, sorry for the off topic.
