Indeed, not bad! I would not dare yet to lean the bike that much!!
I like this camera angle. You can really see the tire deformation on bumps and turns!

WOW! The big Ugly can really take the track. Did you see it smokin' those sport bikes? Nice.

Yeah, I waited till the end to see what kind of tires he was running. Freaking sweet.

Thanks Mokus. The rider sure made that look easy and it didn't sound like he was riding it all out either.

Seems a little odd that the 1K blows by the sporties in the straight, other than that, it goes to show what a good rider can do in the twisties. Great video.

Really cool vid!!!! We all know just how capable the big V truly is, but I too find it odd that he is passing supersports with ease. Either the rider is very good on the 1000, or the other riders are inferior? I would like to have an RC51 or GSX-R 750, and see if he could pass me as easily. The 1000 is plenty quick and "flickable", hee hee haw haw......but should get blown away in the straight stretches by an inline 4 or racing twin.
Told you all that BLACK is the fastest!!!!!!

Freakin a that was cool. I suspect it was a track day and the other riders were in a slower class. None the less, he was rolling pretty good the big Strom.

In the straights, you just hammer it and hang on.

"Hey!!! That be me!
http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=181496
It was in the "B" group, so I would not hold up the race group on actual race bikes. The scraping is pegs and exhaust. Bike is fun out there if you don't expect much more from it than a good spirited ride. The sportier riders with real tires and ground clearance will hand it to you. But as you see that leaves plenty of people to pass still.
I recommend it for sure."

eeeemmm.........I don't think he's leanning too much .There are far more margins of improvement. But the sound of a screaming V2 is just too hot

He is leaning the V as far as it will go with his body posture... what ever posture that is it does not show in the video. He is scraping at every turn so he really cant lean it anymore.

You could tell the sportbikes weren't pushing it too hard in the corners due to their lean angle. Still impressive riding. Very smooth on the gears and matching rev's during downshifting. Only heard the rear tire chirp once entering a turn. I personally can ride my dl1000 better in curves than my old ZR-7. Good video thanks for sharing! Fletch

I do. A track surface in dry conditions is one thing... real world road riding is another. ;)
I'd be willing to bet there is a great discrepency in rider skill level in that video (as in expert & beginner classes). There is no way the Strom could match a pure sportbike if riders were equal.

I think they either discussed before the ride to go slower just for the Strom to seem faster or they are newbies.

Mokusbajusz is right! It was all staged so the V-Strom would look like the fastest bike out there. If you look closely at the film you can see that the frame rate has been increased also, thus making it look faster. I'd guess that he's going 25-30 miles an hour tops! Probably came from the same people that faked the Moon landing, and JFK's assassination (He's living in Latvia) and.....er I've said too much. Who's that.... Arrrrgh.......
Please disregard the above message. It was placed there by an unsound mind. Thank you for your patience in this matter. U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Now, now Stromette.......they aren't that bad, and yes I pushed them pretty hard. I also got caught in some pretty rotten weather with them too, and they worked better than fine.;)
I think the score is 50/50 when it comes to people's opinion of the TW's. I think some people feel that whatever "stock" tire comes on a motorcycle or car, has got to be inferior for some reason. I know that it not your assesment, but others can sometimes think that way. I do feel that the Metzelers are the better "do it all" tire, but they are not heads and tails better than the DEATH WINGS!!! My opinion of course.....not like you actually ride or anything.
I agree with your sportbike vs Strom statment on the track.....no contest for the supersport with a good rider. Real world roads and conditions, now that is a different story.

Well, to me a tire is not just a piece of rubber or an opinion since I'm trusting my life to it. I want every head, tail, inch, and advantage I can find to give me (the tire) the best chance to survive! Maybe this is one of those things you gotta put in a significant miles to appreciate (hit the gamet in the worst of the worst and extremes in weather/road conditions) and really push a tire to its limits to know.
What is "good" or "bad" is indeed opinion. What keeps you rubber side down and alive is not. I personally don't know of any hard core LD riders that replaced stock tires w/stock tires. FWIW, I'm mounting my 7th set of Tourances tomorrow (in 1yr & 1 wk of Strom ownership). YMMV greatly.;)
Yo, BB, will I see you at the game in Glendale?

That averages out to only 7142miles per set. I thought the Tourance lasted longer than that. That is about the same life of the Trailwings. Do the Tourances really wear that quickly? I was considering a set nwxt go around, but if they wear like that maybe something else will work better.

Your use of the statistics may not serve you well since you are not factoring in other variables like # of takeoffs (I had 1, would have to look at the mileage records to be sure but I think around 60% worn). IMHO, the use of statistics parlayed with opinion is what breeds misinformation the most in the motorcycling communtity.

You could always try a Tournance for better mileage ya know. I'd need a lot more than those #'s out of a LD tire for sure but w/your hardware wear you mention I'd guess you're not running long distance on the Strom anyway. BTW, you have over 40,000mi on your Strom? What year is it? A DL1k? (you might consider updating your profile w/info in which particular Strom you're running). If a DL1k, what mechanical issues have you had in the last 10k miles?
