These photos are of the old Port Royal covered bridge at Port Royal State Park near Adams, TN. It used to be an interesting place to go because of the old covered bridge, but unfortunately, as the photos show, there is not much left of it now. The history of the original covered bridge is unknown except that its remains washed away in a flood during 1866. It was rebuilt in 1903 and deteriorated until it fell into the river in 1972. A third bridge was built in 1978 and this one, the bridge shown in the photos below, was virtually destroyed by a tornado on June 10, 1998. Obviously it has not been rebuilt yet.

Somewhere at home I have some photographs I took of it back in the late 70's after it was rebuilt, but I haven't been able to find them yet. If I ever run across them I'll scan them and add them here. At the time it was an interesting structure, and one of the few remaining covered bridges left in this part of the country.

Taken at the Colbert Ferry Site of the Natchez Trace Parkway. This bridge crosses the Tennessee River just south of the Alabama / Tennessee border.

New River Bridge (Fayetteville, WV). Used to be the longest steel arch bridge in the world. Now in second next to some bridge in China.
