Hi,
I just bought a beautiful black 2005 DL1000, it has 2400 miles on it, one owner. I just put a pair of 2 brothers slip on's and it now sounds great. My question is when I crack the throttle there is a very slight hesitation, has anyone experienced this? Its not very bad, it seems to be around a quarter of a second lag before it revs. Is this normal for this motor? It was present before the pipe switch and remains. This is my first V-Twin, I have had the bike for 2 weeks and love it! It has the be the most fun motorcycle I have ever owned. Thanks in advance for your help! Is something out of sync or maladjusted? The idle is running around 1100-1200Rpm. This hesitation occurs when the engine is hot or cold. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The first thing I would try is a TBS (throtle body sync). Fill out your profile and you might find someone in your area that would be willing to help you out.

Congrats on the bike! :) The V's are a real blast and you'll have miles of fun on it.
You running a PCIII USB or is the bike stock other than the slip-on's? The reason I ask it that a high percentage of '05 1000's have a very lean, low rpm condition that can cause some funky stuff to happen. I know because mine was like that. I'm running a PCIII USB with a K&N filter, drilled pipes, and secondaries removed.
We need more information on your new steed :).

Done, Thanks for the note! I live in NW Connecticut. I have not tried a TBS yet but will research it. Thank you!

Hi Cisco,
Its stock mechanically except for the pipes. Anyone in Connecticut have a PCIII that could help with the mapping? I would be willing to pay you for your time and trouble? Thanks very much!

Jerry,
PCIII's don't work like that. You have to leave it hooked up to use the fuel maps. What you need to do is find a local shop (preferably a race shop) that has a Yoshimura FI tool. Commonly referred to as a "Yosh Box" (you can search on that and find more info that you know what to do with).
Add +1.5% Fuel to the idle circuit with the Yosh Box, do a TBS, and you'll likely be amazed at the change in your bike. Not that the BigStrom would EVER be called a "sewing machine" - but more like the way a well tuned and timed Chevy V-8 purrs. If you really want to open 'er up - pull out the secondaries and watch what happens when you hit 7k. :o Again, search on "secondaries" here on the forum.
Shhhh... you hear that? If you listen closely you can hear the beast within your V trying to awaken. LET IT OUT!!! :D:D:D

Thank you so much for taking the time to fully explain the procedure and solution. I sincerely appreciate it. You are correct, it is without a doubt the most fun motorcycle I have ever owed! I am 43 and end up grinning like a possum eating a persimmon when I on it. I will try to post some pics later. Thanks again and best wishes.

Hi Jerry -
I have a black, completely stock '05 DL1000. My bike has a split second hesitation if I blip the throttle at idle or whack it open when going down the road. It's done this since new (I am the original owner). I've never worried about it and in fact don't notice it unless I look for it. It's never caused a problem and my bike runs GREAT! The motor is smooth, flexible, and it'll take me from a standstill to 120+ in a what seems like two blinks of an eye!
Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, every twin I've owned/ridden has done this. Hmmm.....
BTW, if you love your bike now, wait'll you get another 2-3K on it. The motor is going to get smoother as you put the miles on it, and it hasn't developed all it's muscle yet. The best of that machine is yet to come.

Hey Monkeygrass,
Have you had any serious maintenance issues? You have the second highest mileage I've heard of on this board, and I was wondering if you could help me see into the future, so to speak.
