Hi. I just thought I'd introduce myself since I purchased a 2002 DL 1000 today with only 4000 km. on it. I can't ride it till Monday though when the insurance is all done. I'm a long-time biker. It has no bags, so I'll probably pick up some Givis this winter.

I started riding (illegally) when I was 14, which was 35 years ago and have ridden pretty much ever since, with the occasional lapses. My dad, great guy he was, bought each of his four sons a new bike when they turned 16. So I've owned a bike almost constantly since then, except for awhile in my poverty-stricken student days. For the last dozen or so years, I've been into restoration and riding of old Brit bikes. I have a mint, restored 72 Triumph Bonneville, on which I'm currently completing a top end job. I also have a partially restored 69 Royal Enfield Interceptor.

After too many years of wrenching on such bikes and not enough time riding, I've decided to switch back to new bikes, so that I can do some proper motorcycle touring and head out to the Rockies whenever I feel like it without worrying about break downs and having to pack along a ton of parts and tools. This means the Brit bikes will be for sale come next spring, once I've got them both in running order. Drop me a line if you might be interested in either of them. In a perfect world I'd keep all three, but my wife insisted that if I want the new one, I've got to sell the other two. Can't really blame her. It's not like we're independently wealthy.

I did a lot of research before buying the V-Strom and am very happy with the decision. I've ridden lots of bikes over the years, including a fair number of miles on Beemer GS's, and the V-Strom seems an equivalent or nearly equivalent bike for much less money.

If there are any other V-Strom owners out there who live near Saskatoon Canada, we should hook up. I see a few around town here (population of only 200,000), but not many of them.

I'm also interested in trying some Iron Butt roads, and would be curious about what others might have done to their V-Stroms to prep them for endurance touring.
