Turn the ignition to on
Press and hold BOTH buttons for what seems like forever
Eventually the numbers will start to flash, then use the left (I think) button to adjust the time.

Oh geez, look out for Uncle Heavy and his "USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION" mantra (which I must add gets a HUGE +1 from me!:D )

I held back. I was the first one to read this thread. The guy doesn't have many posts so I kept quiet.

One thing that isn't in the manual, press the left button slightly ahead of the right. Then hold both down until flashing starts. Some have more success with the engine running.

1. Open your owners manual to "Controls and Indicators"

I gave up after five minutes yesterday, and I did RTFM first. I'll try your suggestion, Pat.
The switches on my machine are amongst the crappiest I've ever used -- worse than a mixing console with beer spilled into it. I love having two trip meters, but damn are they hard to clear.

The confusing part is the buttons must be held down until things happen. They are designed so they can't be activated accidentally. A short duration push, no matter how hard, will do nothing. Push and hold, slightly leading with the left button to start. After that, push and hold the individual buttons until a change takes place. They work fine. They just don't conform to our typical mindset that a button push should be a quick stab with an immediate reaction.

Yup. Crappy buttons! I'd settle for some sort of tactile feedback. If I ever take that instrument cluster apart, I'm gonna see about a retrofit.
btw, your left button first procedure worked. merci!

tmcgee, not for nothing, you have to be in the mileage page, not the two trip pages for it to work. That might be why it's not working.

That could very well be the problem. I'll file that info for the next time I adjust the clock. It's quite possible that when I hit the left button first this morning, it toggled me back to that mileage page.
I use one of the trip meters for a fuel marker and the other for current trip mileage -- and it stays on one or the other rather than total bike mileage.
