Hello everyone. I am a MSF Rider Coach and I am buying my first DL in December. In your opinion, what should be the first 3 mods or bolt ons that I should do. Thanks for everyone's help. :D

After three tip overs due to my own stupidity, I would have to rate the Givi bars as #1. They've paid for themselves 3 times so far. Only damage is a broken clutch lever. Body work and signal lights OK.

There's a lot of talk that doing a throttle body sync helps a lot if your bike isn't running smoothly at low RPMS (something you do a lot of as an MSF coach I bet). Dropping a tooth on the front sprocket is popular as well which would also help low speed maneuvers. Crash bars are always good.

Dropping a tooth on the front sprocket is a 650 thing. Sorry, adding one is the popular move. 1000 riders often like a 43 tooth rear sprocket. A replacement rear wheel spacer set to line up the rear and front sprockets is a popular move. http://11109.rapidforum.com/topic=109375461064

Greywolf, Are you sure this problem affects the 06 and 07's? My 06 chain and sprocket run true, and I don't recall any other 06 owners talking of this being a problem.

My choices would be:

1) 43 rear sprocket
2) Fork brace
3) Stebel Nautilus compact airhorn

A 2mm offset is hard to detect without precision tools and shows up in worn cush rubbers after 20,000 miles or so. Some riders report easier shifting and less vibration though.

Crash bars/sliders, flushmount front signals, ensure TB's are synched, and get the Suzuki gel seat. ALLOT of us have Givi top cases "VERY HANDY". Not really many things that you NEED...but ALLOT of things that you'll want! Let us know when you are getting it.

DL1000K7 brochure. Doubt there is much change other than cosmetics.

Hi Firetex , I am a MSF RiderCoach from NJ, I bought my DL1000 in May. I would first recommend the Madstad windshield bracket. Great item, it allows a large amount of adjustability for your windshield. High and vertical or low and angled and any combination in between. The stock setup generates a lot of annoying and tiresome wind buffeting at highway speeds. 2nd I would buy a set of engine guards. This bike seems more prone to falling then other bikes. I have a Honda Shadow for six years before the DL1000 and I never once came close to dropping it. Had the Strom since May and I have dropped it twice. Engine Guards a must.
3rd Luggage. This bike's design allows it to carry a lot of gear.

1st) Madstad Bracket $55-$70ish don't remember exact price
2nd) Engine Guards $130 -$300
3) Luggage $100-$1000

Personally have
1) Madstad bracket with Givi windshield (bought Givi before Madstad was developed)
2) Fehling Engine Guards
3) Givi E52 Maxia Topcase with passenger gelpad and integrated brakelights with adaptor base plate. (Holds XL full face and S full face at same time.)

Ride the bike for 1000 miles or so before making engine/gear changes. adjustments. You might find that they are not necessary.

I did? If I did I screwed up. One up on the countershaft sprocket is a popular option.

Thanks. I did a correction. I fwap myself in abasement.

Thanks for all of your help. Keep the posts coming. I am looking forward to the new bike. Have had many bikies over the past 20 years. Only the BMW RT 1100 was i this enthused about. Thanks, Fire Tex

1) Madstad bracket
2) Center stand
3) crash bars/skid plate
4) luggage

I would say a tb synq, but since it's new, insist it be done and double checked by the dealer during set-up.

Why is dropping this bike the bike's fault, and not the user's? (I am considering buying one, so I'm just curious!)

I've a 98 Bandit 1200 to sell if anyone cares.
