I bought my '06 DL 1000 new about a month or so ago. I do 100% street riding. I wonder if it is worthwhile (as in bang for the buck) to get new tires now that are more dedicated street tires like the Metzeler Roadtech, ME 88 or Lasertech. I see the other thread on tire choice, but I am asking about doing it when the stock tires are still new.

My '05 runs fine with stock tires; why spend the $ on road strickly road tires when there are much more deserving add-ons for a new strom?

For some "strange" reason, many seem to think that the stock Trailwings are inferior tires. Must be cause they came on the bike? They are cheap tires that get good mileage, and I think handle well.
Metzeler Tourance are better "all around" tires, and I am quite pleased with the rear that I run. The ME880's are VERY good all road tires, as well as the Bridgestone BT 020's. We hear good things about the new Bridgestone Battlewings that are out, but not available yet in the USA.
We don't have many choices of tires for the Stroms, but the ones that we DO have are pretty darn good. Best of luck.

I was going to go with the Pilot power or the Conti road.... :) But since I am taking the V on the LA-Barstow-Vegas run, I just ordered a set of TKC80. I wont mount them till a couple of days before to get them scrubbed in.

If you do switch them over, I'll take them off your hands so they don't clutter up your garage.

I'm about to order a new set of tyres for my bike and I am tempted to stick with the Trailwings.

My basically zero mile Trailwings will be swapped for a set of Michelin Pilot Roads shortly.
And a guy at the shop where I bought the bike has a basically new set of Two Brothers pipes of his 1000 Strom for $200.00 plus these 'Wings.
Plus Conti makes the Road Attack in DL sizes and I have a set of those sitting in the warehouse, too!!!

CORRECTION: I was looking at my 6Fiddy Log today and realized that I had erroneously posted that I replaced the OE tires with 020's. I had my 6Fiddy delivered with D607 Dunlops. Those were the tires I ditched for the 020's. My comments as to why I dumped them remain the same.
A single trip up Highway 1 to Big Sur in the rain convinced me that the OE rim protectors needed replacing. It wasn't the lack of traction as much as it was the lack of predictability at the edge of (or slightly beyond) traction. I swapped them out and installed a set of 020 "stones" with less that a couple of thou on the odo.
And I've been a happy camper ever since. Not only does the bike "point" better and hold a chosen line better but the traction (wet or dry), the "feedback" and the consistent behaviour at and beyond the limits of adhesion are vastly superior to the OE rim protectors imo.
If you don't ride in the rain and never ever get close to the limits, the OE rubber is fine. . . . . But if you are interested in serious traction (wet or dry), predictability and tactile feedback the 020's are a much better choice.

I agree with you, unless you venture offroad! What about the Metzeler Roadtec Z6, anyone have some decent feedback on that tire?

The Trailwings did well for me as I managed to wear them to the very edge. I picked up ME880's for their longevity and the fact I didn't buy my Wee Strom as an off road bike. Almost 18,000 miles on the rear ME880 & it still has lots of life left in it

I've done enough dirt & gravel roads, both improved and not with the 020's to consider it "not an issue". In fact fire roads are a real gas. . . . My ridcing is 90/10 pavement/dirt.
