Guys, I just put a powerlet outlet on my litre strom and was reading...somewhere...that some guy(evasive isn't it) said that the bike barely puts out enough electrical power to run the digitals, much less accessories. And come to think of it, I have not seen any Strom with extra electrical farkles.

I ride in cold weather and want to make sure my vest is not gonna cause my bike to give up the ghost.

any input.

thanks

Yeah, you have some power to spare, but just not much by BMW standards. It all depends on what you're running. I forget the exact figures for output, so I'm sure someone will post it.

Late model DL1000s ('03 and later IIRC) have a good 125W extra at 5000rpm and better. For more power in daylight hours, unplugging one headlight will provide 55W more.

I've seen several V's with other lights on them. AlaskaTroy has some extras on his V.

FWIW, this girl runs a bunch of electrical farkles  .... probably easiest to click on the "Stromette's Travels" link below for pics and lists regarding my bike. I run heated jacket, gloves, auxillary lights (35w), GPS, cell phone/tracking, radar, etc., etc and do so simultaneously.... albeit at a constant and high rpm.

I have a similar setup on my Wee. I have ran heated gloves & jacket, 35 watt lights and my GPS is always plugged in along with an amplifier and my MP3 player. The little accessories don't draw squat, it's the Heated Gear & lights that use the power

I am running Hot Grips (great) and a home brew heated shirt (also great) on a DL1000 without problems. The grips run about 36 watts and the shirt about 42. (total about 6.5 amps) I do make some effort to keep the revs up but have used them in combination for 8 hours at a time without issue. They are on a dedicated 14 awg pair direct from the battery, fused at 10 amps, and switched by a 30 amp relay wired to the tail light so that I won't leave them on when parked and run the battery down.
