If any of you are looking for a place to host your photos, you absolutely cannot beat smugmug.com. I stopped using my own site as the way to show off my work. My account is http://www.purplepug.com if you want to check it out

The cost of less than $40.00 a year is beyond worth it, especially if you have high quality images that you need to easily upload.

If you sign up, use my photo site e-mail bkearns@purplepug.com in the coupon section to get a few bucks off the account.

Yes, that was a shameless plug but as many of you know, if I see a good thing I like to promote it.

From what I hear, Smugmug is owned/developed/operated by the guy who also has ADVrider.com

I agree with your experience with Smugmug. I have several accounts, one for my own use and 3 that I purchase as annual gifts for family members. Now there is no excuse to stay connect via pictures.

I'm having trouble linking to photo's in Picasa, much less this forum. I'm getting frustrated and I've seen others link to Picasa. I copy and paste the web address of the picture I want to use in the pop up window when I click on image on the reply to forum button. Any help would be appreciated.

Smugmug or Photobucket are generally better and MUCH easier to link pictures from. If the price is the issue photobucket has free accounts.

Take the URL of the picture and use IMG tags like so:

http://www.i-differ.net/~graywolf/pics/img_posting.gif

I copy and paste the web address of the pictureBy web address do you mean the address of the page at the top of the browser? If so, that is the problem. Right click the picture and click copy image location. Also make sure the image is public and the pasted address ends in a picture format extension such as jpg.

Linking to the picture directly is what I think is what I'm doing wrong. I'll check either when I get a chance here at work. Or when I get home tonight. Thanks greywolf and GrayWolf.

+1 on SmugMug.
The upload is slow (REALLY SLOW) for me compared to other host sites I've used, but the quality of the resultant picture is excellent.

I've got the 14 day free trial at smugmug.com and managed to post a few pictures, as you probably have seen, on this forum. It was MUCH easier than Picasa. I'll pony up the $40 since it was so easy. i like the fact that I can have public and private albums there. :) Thanks again, very much.

It does if you put image tags before and after. An easy way is to click the http://www.stromtrooper.com/forums/images/editor/insertimage.gif icon and paste the location in it.

I used to like flickr. But sure enough, Yahoo! bought it and now, unless you pay, you can only display 200 photos.

Flickr is hard to beat when it comes to communities of interest, tagging and social networks, but now with the membership price, I am looking elsewhere. Picasa seems simple to me, especially with the desktop client added to it, however, the fact that full res images are displayed in a frame and you have to drag them around is a pain.

I beat up a guy for smirking at me.

I curious as to what makes the $40 dollar Smugmug better then $0 a year Photobucket? Not trying to be a smart ass just wondering?

Photobucket DOES limit how many photos, (or how much combined space), you upload. At a point, they will notify you that you have exceeded your limit; all of your photos will be truncated within the forums you have used them, unless you pay $29.95/yr.

I speak from learned experience.........

I really like the drag and drop uploading of Mugmug. I have the base account. Anybody know the storage limit. I am too lazy to look.
