Okay, so the title is somewhat misleading.
My gear bag fully loaded weighs about 20lbs. During the Sunday ride of our rally, I raced ahead of the group looking for a prime place to get some good shots. Well the group behind me was racing too and I hurridly stopped along a tight shoulder with steep drop off (problem 1), got off the bike quickly (prob 2), opened up my side case which is on the road side (prob 3) and as soon as I pulled out my D200 with 70-200 lens, over the bike went, all other gear flying out into the grass.

Evidently the weight of the camera was just enough to keep the bike from tipping over. I kept on shooting until everyone passed (and stopped to help). Hell of a way to start of a great ride.

That's what you get for being a nice guy  :D Sometimes I'll try that on a bicycle ride with my point and shoot. Pedal like hell to get 1/4 mile up the road ahead, stop, fish the camera out, power it up and then everyone speeds up and rides by and I get an out of focus shot of an empty road.

Nice shots Brendan. Thanks for sharing. I would love to have a low light telephoto like you have. Quit dropping your bike in the ditch.

Oh no! My first thought was "well at least his d200 and 70-200vr is ok!"
I have the same setup.

Look close in this photo and you will see my D70 (with 18-70) laying in the grass. Yep, went flying. I too thought the same thing, "Glad it wasn't the D200" I think I would have rather smashed the bike vs destroying the camera. Cost would have been about the same!

d2mini, have any of your shots online for us to see?
