Love Colorado. Going again in a few weeks
If you want to try one long dirt road try Labrador!

Another Albertan here (ok ok, misplaced Saskatchewanite...but aren't we all? )
There are some decent roads in Alberta, but I find myself heading to BC and Monatana more often. The Kootenays in BC are amazing, and the roads just south of the boarder by Lake Kookanoosa in MT are unreal.
Idaho is great too...just got back from 5 days 3300km down there. Every road seems to have brand new pavement, lots of twists, and no other traffic. Sign me up.
As for packing, with the E41 bags and my 45litre topcase, I throw in whatever I want.
