Hello all :)
I was contemplating the rear fender shortening since I had the opportunity to see "STROMETTE's" bike when we met during the BMWMOA rally back in June. :?
Monday after work I decided that the fender had to be shortened :!:
So I took the bluetape ,Dremmel , Sharpie, and a File folder ( yup, a folder )
& a Flat file Dbl cut . OH & the Digicam.

I began by marking the fender for the first cut . which goes strait acrosss

next I took the removed portion and made a patern of the bottom edge of the fender and transfered that to the now bottom of the fender:

after marking the fender for the tapered cuts I removed the material to shape the fender to the same rough outline as the original bottom edge

after cleaning & Squareing the edges of the cuts with the Flat File & dremel and a smooth ( read worn out ) drum sanding attachment the finished fender looks like this:

djb383 , thanks I've also replaced the stock mirrors & I'm still trying to figure out a way to reduce Vibration to the camera in the higher rpm areas to get better video.......jack

P.S. did you modify the stock shield or are you running the MADSTAD unit???

Looks great, really clean factory look!!!! I did mine allot like you did, and I am very pleased with the results. Job well done......measure twice and cut once!

Twice? Oh that explains it
Thanks Big B . the factory look is from the factory edge's that were copied to the "new" edge. :)

stromlurker , use the metal saw wheel if you have one to make the cuts if not use a hacksaw the melting plastic didn't do nice things to the abrasive wheel's I had ( now a word from my sponsor ... ...UVEX Safety Glasses) I had 2 wheels shatter from the heat & melting plastic . ended up using the dremel to round over the edges though. :)

I used 2, 1 1/2" long bolts and mounted the stock shield lower than the lowest stock position. I also added Burgman 400 mirrors.

I did the same mode with my bike. Got rear ended on the weekend, and had a huge chunch taken out of the fender.

I just used a hack saw to cut off the broken part, and then filed it down after to get the right profile. I then used the carboard trick to make it look smooth on the edges. Turned out great. I am happy;) I was going to shorted the rear fender anyways.

Too bad it took a rear ender to make it happen. At least nothing else was broken (bike or me). the colision was a slow speed while waiting at the lights.
