Could I use a #530 chain instead of the stock #525? Are the links the same size and space?

Curious what the advantage would be Vinny.

Vinny , I'm also currious as to what you would gain by going to a 530 chain?
the 525 giving up too early or are you finding that it is stretching too easily? :?

well Im thinking if a 530 chain on my hayabusa lasts really long with 185 rear wheel horse power and hard launches from lights. The 530 should practicly last forever in a bike with more than 50% less power and strictly touring correct?

Excellent question! I've been wondering the same thing myself. I get around 20K out of a DID 530 on my Blackbird. I can't understand why the Wee shouldn't be able to get at least 35K on one. Unless throwing dirt roads in to the equation really messing things up.

From my limited understanding, you could but I'm not sure if it is worth it. The 530 chain is bigger and heavier, so you would have to change both front and rear sprocket, plus you would be adding real weight(not much) but also adding unsprung weight ( the weight/force of spinning that heavier chain). This could affect how the bike handles during riding, especially during more spirited riding.
You would also have to make sure the chain clears inside the motor housing.
Hope that helps a little, Roger

Yes you can. I had a 530 on my K3 Dl1000. I didn't change sprockets, but that was more out of ignorance at first. I went to a nearby bike/race shop and asked them about it. These guys said that it would be fine to run that way but just check it to see it is lined up. The 530 chain is slightly wider which is why you usually use 530 specific sprockets. I went the whole life of that 530 chain with those sprockets without any problems. I did switch back to a 525 chain after that (and new sprockets) just because I really didn't see any benefit or more life in the chain. Hope that helps. :)
