street tires for the strom

I'm looking for some tires for the strom :cry: ,since i don't do much offroad riding,i what to buy street tires.I've been looking around and it seems pretty easy to find some tires for the back but the front is a pain in the ass.Have any ideas,i may change the front wheel for a 18 inches,does anyboby had tried this before.

I just replaced the OE Bridgestone's with a sport/touring tire made by Metzler. The rear is a 160/70-17 and the front is 110/90-19. Each is a little different from the OE but I believe that my handling on pavement is much improved. I got just over 9000 miles on the OE tires, and they got real slippery the last couple of thousand miles. The Metzlers seem to be much stickier.

Stromfer, You can get a Dunlop 207 front 120/19" that is originally made for the HD VRod. I think that is as good a sticky street tire as you will find for the front end of the Strom.

Thanks guys,i really appreciate.Tokenboy,have you try the 120 on your bike,because i was thinking about it but i'm not sure if the rim of the strom is wide enough. :?: The metzeler you put in front bkeiser boy,is it a M33 laser...both tires fits ok :?: :roll:

I've used the Dunlop D207 120/19 on my Strom. I do mostly sport riding on mountain roads.

The tire sidewalls are drawn in by the narrow rim, limiting the effectiveness of the stickier rubber by reducing the size of the contact patch. The tire was very slippery for the first 150 miles. I can usually scrub-in a tire in 25-50 miles, but not the V-Rod tire.

After break-in, the tire had slightly better stick than the Metzler Tourance which I usually use. It also wore out about twice as fast as the Tourance. I'm now using Tourances again and won't likely use another D207.

That's what i was thinking,i wasn't sure about the mileage but i thing i'll go with a 100/90/19 or 110/90 but there is not a lot of choice in that size.I eared good thing about the tourance and the price in not too bad in that category.I am still looking for street tire for that bike,bridgestone make a bt45 for it and michelin a macadam 50,will see.

I've been hearing very good things about the new Michelin Anakees. The two people I've actually talked to liked them better than the Tourances. I don't know what the cost is or how many miles they will go yet.

Stromfer: The front Metzler I put on was the Laser ME 33 and it is 110/90 19. It seems to work fine, and is better in wet conditions. I really like the rear tire and it is one size larger at 160 vs the stock 150. Check them out on the Metzler site on line or any dealer has them in a catalog.

What about the mileage and the feeling up to now compare to the stock tires.I would really appreciate your input about it.I'm leaving saturday for a 2500 miles trip on the east coast of Canada and i 'll probably need to change the tires when i come back. Keep me in touch :wink: Thanks

The Metzlers are smoother and seem to work great in any condition (pavement). I haven't noticed any gas mileage difference, so I assume it is about the same. I now have 3,000 miles on them and they are wearing great. The OE Bridgestones were cupping a little at 9,000 miles.
