It seems there are quite a few people getting back into riding after being away from it for 20 or more years. I'm one of them! I've been out for 23 years. For me, something was missing, watching crab grass grow in my yard, fighting fire ants and playing golf just was not "doing it" for me!
Bikes have changed alot sense I last owned one.
I've had two enduros and due to the old college gang have rode all kinds, Goldwings, Harleys, street, dirt....
As I was trying to make up my mind on what to get I looked at all of them;
crusers, not my style
touring, too much bike for what I wanted.. besides I already own an SUV!
sport, nope.. not interested in riding with my chin on the gas tank
so called dual purpose..most of those are just dirt bikes with blinkers!!!
Then I found the V-STROM. It fit everything I was looking for and me, I'm 6' 1" 230 lbs. !!
It has the style, upright position, perfect balance, good features, great price!!
I bought mine one week ago. Only have 150 miles on her ( this damn thing called work keeps getting in the way!!) but It feels like I have been riding her for years. Its perfect right out of the crate!!
Only thing I want to do is put " case guards " on.
I have only been able to find two manufactures, GIVI and MOTECH.
Anyone have more info on them or other manufacture choices?
Loving it!!!

Keith,
Eurotech Motorsports carries Hepco Becker case guards for the V-Stroms.
If interested, call 530-345-7145 or email sales@eurotechmotorsports.com
Chris at Eurotech is very customer oriented. Their website is awful to navigate though. I found it better to work with him through email.
I don't own case guards yet, but I have bought other parts from Eurotech.

Hepco Becker case guards for the V-Stroms
Thanks, Paul
I looked at these also, the problem with them is they attach to the radiator mounts. There are a few complaints that it has caused the radiator to be damaged with just a knock over!
Thanks

KFREGE or however you spell it.
You have to like the DL650. Its a big persons bike, some what tall like a dirt bike. Owned the DL1000, but it sure didn't handle like this bike.
This weekend when I recieved it, I have worn the tires to the edges and put 450km on it. Sorry! for the metric. Enjoy riding again

Are you talking Case Guards or Crash Bars. Don't know too much about case gaurds, but the crash bars work great on the bike Givi!. Just have to bend thenm straight and spray boom the scratches for my 650.

I just ordered the H&B crash bars, and I was under the impression that they did not mount to the radiator. It has only two mounting points and both appear to be part of the frame. I've heard the Touratech bars have this issue, but I haven't heard anything like this about the H&Bs. If anyone knows different please let me know. Thanks.

thanks scooter
The GIVI look better than the MOTECH, Hepco Becker look the best but I don't like the idea that they connect to the radiator mounts. I have not seen a good picture of the GIVI's, all of them are from a rear angle and you can't really see much!
Where do they pass to the other side? under the radiator?
Do they give enough clearance for the radiator?
Do your knees rub on them or is there plenty of clearance?
And how hard is it to get the side fairings off?
Thanks,

Ethan,
I looked at the picture of the 1000 again, they don't have a picture of the 650
http://www.eurotechmotorsports.com/forms/Query.cfm?do=detail&q_part=502.307%2000%2001&q_startrow=51&Big=Yes
It looks like they do not mount to the radiator, I'm not sure what that lower frame tab is on the 1000 the 650 does not have it.
Paul gave me a number to call:

530-345-7145 or email sales@eurotechmotorsports.com
I have not had a chance to call yet, maybe Chris could email a copy of the instalation instructions to you!
I was going to ask him to do it for the 650 and see if they had a picture!
Let me know how it turns out,
thanks

Thanks Keith, I actually ordered the bars from Eurotech. I posted this quandary on another board and got the following response:
"The kind that mounts to the radiator are the crash bars from - believe it or not -- Touratech. H&B has three (two) mounting points onto the small subframe, and an interconnection in between both sides in front of the engine."
Looks like the H&B bars are radiator friendly, at least on the DL1000.

OK...I did more looking this morning, I was wrong, it is the Touratech bars that mount to the radiator.
Here is some better pictures of them all. This is from

these are all pictures of the DL1000, it does not do us 650's much good
but, its a general idea!
