View Full Version : Time for BBQ again?

I've noticed a slow influx of new V-Strom riders in the Texas area. Sounds like it is about time to do another "V-Strom Only" BBQ run to Glen Rose again! :D
Here was the previous trek: Glen Rose BBQ (http://stromtrooper.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4155)
(it actually happened on 18 March rather than what the title says)
So, is there any interest or is it just too hot right now & we should wait until September (like it will be cool then  ) or October? We could just do it early.
I am thinking second Saturday in August?
Whatdayathink?
(hoping the Rev will show us whatever new Bike he has)

If you're talking 'bout the Rev I think you're talking about... I would ride out to let him visit with his old Wee.

reverendbiker, also known as Jack, at one point owner of 2 V-Stroms.
I believe you have his 650...
Last March he brought his Harley but I think he now has a Honda cruiser (unless he traded again)

Ah, that would be the second Saturday.
Last time we did high noon. Will that work or should we try a little earlier?

Maybe 11:00 due to the heat, but I'm as used to it as you can get, so whatever the collective decides is OK with me.
Sounds good. I will not suggest any resteraunts there since I am biased to the H resteraunt (there are two others in the area as well). I was outnumbered today on a ride that people liked Hard 8 better than the H resteraunt.

We did Hammonds last time - we might want to do Ranch House BBQ this time. We'll figure that out.
That being said...
Aaaarrrgh, I found out I have a conflict - a 2 PM wedding that afternoon. For those of you also on TWT, you know I pulled that excuse just yesterday to miss the Pie Run. For some reason, I thought the next wedding was the 26th, until I was reminded today.
So, unless the 19th is good with everyone, I'll leave it on the 12th, maybe I'll ride down, take some photos, and then hightail it back. I'll try to arrange seating to separate all the troublemakers first...
(these weddings are killing me this summer...)

Tell them you'll make their next one. I've used that one several times and now no one invites me anymore! Score! :D

Unfortunately, these are kids in my sons' age range that I have known all their lives. So, I'm stuck & have to go...

Any ideas? If the 12th is best for everyone else - I'd say ya'll go do it & I'll catch the next one (there are planty of 'Stroms around). Or we can try the 19th.
As soon as something is decided in concrete, firm, no foolin', for sure, I'll make an announcement on TWT, too.

However, if you decide on the 19th, Whee (collective 'we') will be there!
I am leaning to the 19th as well because I have something to do on the 12th in the afternoon. I could probably make it on the 12th but I may not be able to stay for lunch.
Plus not many stroms have responded so the date that works for more people would be better.

Looks as if the tendency is for the 19th, at least from the three of us thus far.

I haven't yet - I was waiting to see if Kurt would be able to make the 19th. fogllama also mentioned coming, so I want to make sure they are awake...
We probably need to decide by midweek (that's Wednesday for you date-challenged folks) and cast it in stone (to be jack-hammered later)...

I work the 19th, but could get caught on the 12th too. Plan it for the benefit of the majority.

Well, we haven't got a heck of a lot of responses anyway - I think the 19th would work for a few of us. Would love to have Kurt there - sometimes his schedule changes. But there is always September...
Kurt, when we do get synchronized, any chance Rhonda would be willing to do a little longer ride and join us in Glen Rose?

You're killing me here, Foggy. I've owned 35 street motorcycles over the past 42 years, and I've only regretted selling one of them--you're riding it. My current VTX1800 is a great bike and a torque monster, but it's really heavy and I'm an old coot. Believe it or not I've been drooling over the Wee-Strom again and plan a trip to good ol' Central Texas Powersports to check it out; I may well be a 2-bike garage again. Man, Kurt will never let me hear the last of this...

There's a newly assimilated strom rider at Fort Hood that would like to join in and meet other Stromers. As soon as you have the details for this, I'll pass the info along.

Aaaack - looks like something on the schedule for the 19th, too. I suggest we try September - say, try the second weekend for starters - 9th?
Of course, if anyone wants to go in August, just say so & I'll bet you might have company...

Next month I will have had the Strom for 6 months. If that's not a ringing endorsement for a bike I don't know what is.

OK, it looks like my possible conflict for next Saturday (19th) has evaporated, soooooooo
1. Anyone want to do BBQ on 8/19?
2. Or how about Labor Day weekend - 9/2 (Saturday)?
3. Or maybe Labor Day itself - 9/4 (Monday)?
4. or back to 2nd weekend in September - 9/9 (Saturday)?
as soon as I get 2 or more peeps to go, I'm going with that! We can do more later when it gets cooler. Could also do Hard 8, Coopers(!), or whatever...
my reason? I am going to miss the pie run on 8/26 due to a trip to San Antonio (car). I need to fit a good ride in sometime...

OK, it looks like my possible conflict for next Saturday (19th) has evaporated, soooooooo Labor Day weekend traffic is usually heavy. Although that Monday would be fun.........
I vote for next Sat, with Labor Day Monday alternative.
If you don't mind, I'll tag along with ya.

OK, now if JBH will agree, we can plan it & announce it on TWT.
We can always go again later, tho we will NEVER get everyone at the same time...

Might get fewer votes/participants for this weekend since its such a late announcement. Hence my alternative vote, but we can try.
I think I am good for this Saturday. I am pretty sure I am not good for Labor day because we will hav company in town. Just let me know what you all decide. I can't make the Rosa's meet tomorrow so just email what you decide.

I'll post it here and on TWT - looks like we have several going. It will be a "relaxed" ride, target arrival time at BBQ will be 11:00 AM to beat the heat.

I'm going to have to pull out of this one. Between the new job, company, heat and sleep deprivation, I need a weekend of 'nothing'. I rode the bike into work in a coma this morning

No problem LZ, we'll be doing this again when it gets cooler.
Mitch, yes, 8/19 table time 11:00 AM
I'll try to have ride details tonight...

Here is what I am thinking:
Meet at the Minyard at I20 and Green Oaks in southwest Arlington (northwest corner) at 9 AM. LeMans start at 9:15.
Route:
US287 slab to Mansfield
FM157 into downtown Mansfield (don't blink)
take shortcut to FM917
travel very carefully on 917 thru Lillian and Egan
continue on FM2280 thru Keene
thumb noses at any blue VFRs in Keene
take US67 south thru Cleburne
take FM1434 south & loop back north
take FM200 west
take Brazos Point road south
quick stop to check out the old bridge
take FM56 north into Glen Rose
if it is close to 11:00, head over to Hammonds BBQ
if we have 30 minutes or more (guessing):
take FM205 west across US67
take FM51 south back to US67 again
cruise down 67 east to the BBQ place
-------
I haven't been to Ranch House BBQ but it gets high marks from others (locals even), so either spot would be good.
-------
Return trip TBD

Well, we did it. Total of 7 riders - 3 'Stroms - 2 650s and a 1000. Other bikes were 2 KLRs, a ST1300, and a ZRX.
Will do this again when it gets cooler.
