One of my other dualsport bikes is the new to the US Kawasaki KLX250S.
The bike is simply a great dirt bike that you can also ride on the street.
It is lightweight - read that easy to pick up when you dump it when riding off road!
As delivered by KHI, the bike has a few things that need addressing IMHO.
o The 1.9 gallon gas tank is too small - I now have a 3.7 gallon Acerbis tank on mine.
o It sounds like a lawnmower - actually a lawnmower sounds better! I have performed a "bafflectomy" on mine.
o The bike seems "corked-up" when you first get it - I've done mods to correct that.
o Gearing is too tall - a 13 tooth countershaft sprocket makes a world of difference.
I have ridden the bike on some great single track riding - here in Florida we don't have much in the way of elevation changes, but when I was up in Tennessee this spring, I did a lot of hill riding - works great.
To me, the KLX250S is a great little bike for riding where you don't want to take a larger, heavier and more road-worthy motorcycle.
Just think, you could buy a BMW R1200GS, or a V-Strom and a KLX250S and still have farkle money for both! Kind of puts it in perspective now, don't it!
