Grossglockner - The Biker's Heaven

I am planning a 3-day trip in August in Austria at Grossglockner.

Can you imagine 48 Km full of serpentine starting from 805m up to 2571m then back to 1301m of sea level?

Planned dates are either 11-13 or 18-20. If somebody would join...

Done Grossglockner twice, both times it was essentially bumper-to-bumper traffic from top to bottom. I much preferred the less-touristy, less-travelled roads and passes.

What time did you do that?
I planned it in mid August. Is there too much traffic at that time?
