Go to Wal-Mart & buy a set of "Space Bags" for your clothes. You put them in, zip the bag shut and then press the air out through a one-way valve. The clothes end up about 1/3 of the original size, and the bags are waterproof.

Hold it...
You're trying to tell me that I SHOULD get these so that I'll have extra room AND my clothes won't get wet if I ride in rain??

What the hell fun is that????

Thanks for the tip!! I just might have to check into a set..

My wife loves packing in those things... but I don't like them for two reasons.

1. They get to be hard as a rock once the air is removed and that makes them difficult to pack in many hard cases (i.e. Givi with the rounded interiors)

2. My wife thinks she can make up the space removed by air with more clothes and misc. items. This is fine, except when one of those bags wears out in the middle of a trip and I'm stuck trying to repack the bike (and remember my wife is with me so every square inch of luggage space has been filled and now I've got clothes that won't fit without a space bag. Thankfully I wear a 3/4 length textile jacket and it has many pockets!)

If you buy a good, waterproof setup like that from http://www.helen2wheels.com/ you won't miss the waterproof capabilities of the spacebags. Plus your clothes come out less wrinkled.
