Just curious but does chain lube do a better job than chain wax or is the wax preferred? I commute ~80 miles a day on my Vstrom and currently use chain wax. I lube the chain about once a week. Just trying to get an idea what others are doing.

Thanks!!

Boeshield T-9 on side plates (corrosion protection), Golden Spectro Chain Lube on center rollers (metal to metal Lubrication). Very little sling. Lasts longer than anything else I have tried, including Chain wax which slings and makes a mess.

Boeshield - Developed by Boeing. Sold at Marine supply stores. Also use it on my forks. Causes no problems and I have no corrosion. I live in Florida, on the coast.

I have 17.5K miles on original chain. No sprocket wear. Still looks like new.

By now, you might have noticed the post on this forum today on "Dupont Multi-Purpose Dry Lubricant with Teflon". That product seems to be the consensus favorite for chain lube in all but the harshest, wettest conditions.

I have had good luck with maxima chain wax. I have used klotz chain lube on my dirt bikes with pretty good results as well. The klotz is more tacke and oily, but works well. Just a little messier.

Living in Southeast Louisiana, it's dirty and wet, with very bad road conditions. My daily commute is currently 94 miles RT. I ride every day in all weather conditions (lots of humidity and rain). My preferred use are the waxes (Bel-Ray or Maxima); they are readily available at any cycle/accessory shop. Aside from the occasional wax glob that falls from around the C/S area, these waxes are very clean and have proven to me they do an exceptional job. My second choice is PJ Blue Label. If you follow the instructions (wipe off excess), it is a fairly clean lube (it does pickup dirt more so than a wax). I always keep a can of lube in my bag and lube every other fill-up (400-450 miles). At the end of each week, I wipe off any excess build up. The OE chain was replaced at 28,900 miles and could easily have lasted much longer. But since it was time for new rear tire, I replaced it with a DID VM2 X-Ring chain; which currently is coming up on 30,000 miles. The chain & sprockets (Sunstar) are in better shape than the OE at 28,900.

I use Maxima chain wax too. I like it. It goes on easy and it doesn't fling off and make a mess. I read recently that your chain lube should be determined by the type of riding you do. If you ride a lot of pavement wax is best becase it doesn't fling off. If you ride dirt, an oil based lubricant is best because it does fling off and it removes dirt from the chain in the process. Makes sense. I ride a mix of dirt and pavement and I've had no problems with dirt accumulating on the chain with maxima wax.

I've used Maxima, PJ, Motorex, Honda chain lube, and 20W-50. It all works. I got 20k miles out of my stock chain. YMMV.

Hated the Honda lube, though. It's runny. 20W-50 is equivalent and cheaper. :)
