I am new to this forum.

I have a 2004 DL1000 I purchased used last summer. I just installed a PCIII usb from FuelMoto using their map. The bike runs better particularly at 3-4K range and feels a little stronger all the way to redline. I have only a few miles since plugging it in and am wondering:

What is the experience of others with respect to fuel mileage with the addition of a PCIII ??

I have a DL-1000 K3. The gas mileage seemed to go up from 40 to 42 on the average when I installed the PCIII. Probably because the engine was a lot smoother in the 2500->3500 rpm range and I now run it there a lot. Before I kept it 4000+ rpm to keep the engine smooth.

Then I turned on the accelerator pump feature. The bike started to wheelie pretty quick, but gas mileage took a hit. I detuned it to 85% and mileage is practically back to normal. When I open her up fast she scoots! The accelerator pump really does work :D

Please explain this feature. Is it something you map into the PC or another add-on or what ? Sounds like something you might do if you remove the secondary butterfiles. (?)

I love the PC-III USB...

You can do plenty to improve you bike with it. You can increase you MPG and eliminate your problem areas by controlling the A/F ratio in many zones. different TPS and RPM ranges.

Find where you cruse at then adjust the map and you can tweak the map a tad to help get better MPG. Keeping the map "fat" in the problem EPA areas and in the full throttle areas (takes fuel to make power)

HIGHLIGHT an area in the map like 3750-4250 at 20%-60% TPS and reduce the entire area by increments of 1 (page up and page down changes the entire area) You can notice a 2 "unit" change.... I never noticed a 1 change.

Get on the highway and see what RPM's you regularly cruse at. Then adjust the fuel there at that "sweet spot". By riding you should be able to tell when it's a little to lean... play and learn how rich and lean "feel" also a quick motor cut off and plug check. If you worry if it's too lean.

If you get a custom map..... MAKE SURE you tell the tuner your rpm ranges that you cruse at. Have him dyno tune it for a leaner A/F ratio that is safe but on the leaner side of the range. (he will know what that target # is)

He can tune for the suggested exhaust #'s for power or for MPG.. he can easily give you 2 maps one for MPG and one for max power. The max power are at 80 and 100% TPS so why not have him just thin the map a little at your highway range of RPM at the 20-60% TPS?

I am now tweaking my MAP in my Le Mans to yield a little better MPG on the highway while still keeping the WOW factor at the higher rpm and TPS zones.

Look at you custom map and do not wander too far form the original #'s if you have a -5 in a zone it has 5 units less fuel than the stock map... that - number is safe and has the same A/F ratio as the ones with + numbers... knowing the base numbers are safe and have a little available room to move reducing the base numbers equally you will be OK.

I would not cut 8 but a reduction of 2-4 may be just fine. Test ride your reductions (minus two at a time)... till you feel it. than add back 1 or 2 depending how much you removed.

Save that map for times you are not performance crazy and keep your MPG map for the rest of the time.

I found I can have both in one. MAP.

The accelerator pump is a built-in feature of the PCIII-USB. It has to be activated by software. You can download the appropriate software from the PowerCommander website. What it does is enrichen the mixture for a specified number of engine revolutions when you twist the throttle. It's very effective. The way it came my bike kept trying to wheelie, even made it twice. Gas mileage went down.

I have removed my secondaries (DL-1000 K3). This gives the engine more immediate pickup. It also makes the engine sound coming up thru the air filter a bit louder. The accelerator pump somewhat compensates for the leanness of the secondaries being effectively wide open all the time.

I detuned the accelerator pump so it takes a real handful of throttle to activate it. I get great punch when I need it, and reasonable gas mileage too. Works for me. YMMV
