Noise after valve adjustment

I just completed adjusting the valves on my 2006 DL 650. I replaced several shims in the rear cylinder and thus removed the rear timing chain tensioner. When I started the engine I had a new noise that is not metallic and does not sound like a normal valve noise. I think it could be the tensioner. Is it possible for the tensioner to lock in a position that puts too much pressure on the chain guide? Has anyone experienced this? Any suggestions?

Noise was from a breather hose I did not reconnect on the front cylinder. Most of the bikes I work on are old BMW's. This thing has too many hoses and wires.
