I am about to buy my Strom (the 650) and want to know if I should request the tall windshield. The dealer won't charge extra if I get it instead of the standard. I've read many comments here re windshield issues, buffeting, etc. I'm between 5'11" and 6' tall. I'd like decent coverage for freeway speeds without the buffeting. Am I dreaming? At least, what should I get at the outset? Thanks.

PS How do I move a smile over here?

The wind sheild I cant really answer for you, sadly it's doughtfull if anyone can, alot of people like the stock short, many more seem to hate it {includeing me} havent heard anything good about the tall either, most say it's really flimsy and still buffets but I'm only repeating what I've heard since I have no experiance with it, chances are someone probbably loves it, such is the way of screens, there is no 1 perpect screen, they all work for some and not for other rider's.

Now the smilies I can help with, put the flashing type cursor whereever you want the smiley and click on the smiley you want, it will apear as a seriese of symbols looking nothing like what you want but when you submit there it will be

PS welcome to the forum, :D this is a great forum as you will find

No answer as to what screen to go with, but I've never heard any positive comments about the Suzuki tall screen. Do your homework, try to meet other V-Strom owners that will let you test ride their screens. Keep the regular Suzuki screen for a summer screen. I'm about to try out my 3rd screen so don't despair. Just about any screen is better (maybe not perfect) than the stock screen.

Since you want freeway protection, I would start out with the tall screen. I'm about your height, and the standard screen pushes most of the wind into my face. I had very little buffeting, but I did want to do much of my riding with my face shield up for ventilation purposes. I now have a Givi screen which suits me fine. You might as well start with a taller screen and go from there.

I have the GIVI replacement screen (03 DL1000) and I am very pleased with it. I get no buffeting, even at highway speeds and my face shield stays up! It also deflects rain quite well. Installation was a snap too!

An added bonus is the fact that my mirrors do not change position with the wind anymore!

Vordak, how fast do you have to go for the mirrors to change position. First I've heard of it.

Not fast at all, 60mph will do it, before the new windshield. The ball elbow mounts in my mirrors got loose shortly after the warranty expired. It was my only gripe about the bike but the GIVI windshield fixed it!

Obviously a cost saving thing from Suzuki. Oh well.
