I'm going to be the proud owner of an 04 DL650 next weekend and am going to get a topcase for it. I like the Monokey V46, but have a few simple questions that weren't clearly answered anywhere I saw in my searching.

1) Is the E528 DL-specific topcase mount necessary/useful? Or are people just using the E250 universal mounting kit or no mounting kit? Do both work? Any advantage to one over the other?

2) With the brake-light kit, is the case still easily removable (or would you have to add a custom removable connector rather than just splicing wires to keep it removable)? Or is there some other problem I haven't thought about. (Note: This is simple and I'm not worried about it, I just want the info ahead of time.)

Thanks,

Dennis

I have the V46 and use it on my Honda ST1300 (it is a good bag).......I have the Suzuki Kappa luggage for my '03 Strom. I would use the Givi specific mounting plate for the trunk. The brake light kit is pretty slick, i.e., you do not have to disconnect any wires when removing the Givi trunk because the trunk has spring loaded contacts that make contact with the contact plate on the Givi specific plate.

I have a V46 on my Wee-Strom and like it alot! Use the Givi mounting hardware, it will ensure a good fit.

Even though the break like kit allows you to install/remove the case without disconnecting any wires, I would stay away from it. Had a friend install one of these on her Burgman 650 and the connection failed within couple of days. What’s even worst is that when it did work, it was useless in the day light. If you want more rearward visibility get Hyperlights for the V-Strom.

Thanks, guys.

I ordered up the E528 and V46...going to consider the brake light kit at a later date, after I can check out the bag and maybe see it on a bike.

That's a great welcome for simple questions on a first post.

Thanks...got the case and mount, and picked up the bike.

My buddy who bought his Strom in 04 saw it, says he is buying one ASAP. The V46 is hot...looks way better than the stock topcase or the E52 that everyone buys, IMO.
