For anyone who has installed these cans on a DL1000

Why is there "2" different size spacers? I can't get the left side exhaust can mounted with the straps, because I can't get a bite on the threads at the mounting point. I have pushed as hard as I can, and still no threading action. The right side with the thinner spacer.. went right on! I gave my buddy the thick spacer, and I was gonna have him machine it down to the size of the other spacer. Both sides of the bike look the same to me! If you are facing the back of the bike... which side do you put the thick spacer on? I was trying to put it on the left. I thought that the directions SUCKED!!! I had been warned that the directions are wrong.... believe me they are! Also... how do you get the stickers off without scratching the aluminum? One last thing... I put some permatex on the mid pipe and on the inside of the can where it connects to the mid pipe. After everything is tight, I notice that I can turn the exhaust can slightly left and right a bit. Is that play suppossed to be there? I understand that the spring helps keep it in good contact with the mid pipe, but it does turn and swivel a bit! Any good advice and helpful hints would be great! I really wanted to hear that exhaust today! I am a pretty mechanically inclined person.. and this has kicked my butt!

Thanks for any and all input/advice!

Yes, the instructions were awful. Getting the rubber in place was frustrating too.

The thick spacer is used on the rear bolt. It took some doing to get the bolt to catch.

From the outside working in; bolt, clamp (both eyes) spacer, frame bracket.

I initially only used 1 clamp because of the difficulty with the clamps. Then when calmness returned I redid the job with both clamps.

Then the chore of aligning both cans. I left the pillion footpegs off.

Well...... I made a judgement call yesterday morning, and had my buddy cut the big spacer in half. I used both equal halves, on each side of the bike. It worked out PERFECT! :D The cans are in near perfect alignment, with NO leaks! I also was able to get the stickers off with no problems. I tell ya what.... with the baffles in, the exhaust sounds so sweet! They sound allot like the Scorpions, a "little louder"! I will probably leave them in because I think it sounds about right. Trust me... I will try them out too! They both look and sound so sweet....I think I made a good choice. Talk at ya later.
