I made a smaller box for my other bike and got used to having an easy place to keep earplugs and other small stuff. So I set to work on one for the DL650.

The 1st one was smaller, so this is version 2. The 1st pics looked like a drunk took them. Then I finally remembered to take more pics. Then I finally remember to get the pics to the computer. Tonight I finally remember that I'd never done anything else w/ the pics. So I've been running this box for a couple of months now.

It's a Pelican 1030; the mounts are for a Garmin emap GPS. I got the mounts on Ebay for about $8 each (maybe less); the box was about $12-15. It's easily removable, but stays on securely.

The box is glued to the mounts using gorrilla glue; I tried epoxy , but it didn't set up very well and broke loose. There is a place on the mounts for a bolt, but I haven't felt the need to go that far.

I have it set just back of centered on the bars to give a little more room for the getting to the key.

It holds all I've needed so far.

cool. this is pretty much exactly what i want to do for my phone and MP3 player. run a power chord into there and plug them in. they're both bluetooth so i'll pair them to whatever com system i get. they'll be out of the way, safe, and dry.

got a pic of the mounts on the case?

That is nice. Thanks for posting this. It may be the answer to my garage door opener storage/easy access issue.

That's part of why the 1st box I made came about. I had trouble fishing the opener out of my pocket w/ gloves on. It works really well for things like that.

Here are pics of the mounts on the box. There is one small tab that has to be cut off of this side of the emap mount; I guess it hooks into the back of the GPS unit. The rest of this mount has flat spots that work great for gluing.

The little tabs that protrude past the edge of the box are the release mechanism. Just pull them towards the top of the box, slide the whole box forward about 1/2in and lift the box right off the bar mounts.

I found an easy way to get this all glued up, was to take a piece of 7/8 diameter dowel rod and cut it to the width between the handlebar mounts. I attached the lower mounts to the dowel w/ about 1/8in of the dowel showing to give clearance.

Leave the mounting screws loose and sit the mount/dowel/mount assembly on a flat surface and rotate the mounts till they are perfectly flat. Tighten the mounting screws so they won't move.

Attach that assembly to the box mounts, and you can position them wherever you want on the box. Then use the assembly as a clamping point and you're guaranteed to have everything parallel.

I made one too, thanks for the idea. I turned the box 180 degrees so the lid would not hit my pretty orange paint (I am an OCD ass).

I used plastic glue for bonding.

Cool ! Glad you liked the idea. Do you have any problems between your hand and the tank when lifting the latch?

Saw the item title "Handlebar Storage Box".

Saw the photos.

You'll never get the handlebars into the storage box. It's way too small...

I am glad I have never heard that before.
